i want bigger tyres on my discovery mt's,im getting alot of diffrent advice :-. i want to try and lift the diffs a bit if i can,at the moment got 205/80/16 and just put a 1.5" lift kit procomp shocks and bm springs,im willing to do a camel cut,so what size tyre :? been looking at some 235/85/16 but some people have said it will smash the inner arches been advised to put 255/65/16 will these lift the car any more.thanks in advance for the advice :D

The only way to lift the diffs is to fit bigger tyres. The biggest you can fit are 35" and this will only increase the diff height by a few inches. You'll also need the camel cut. To stop touching the inner arch, you'll need bigger bump stops....

will having such big tyres foul on the inner arches even with a camel cut?
will it dammage any of the drives having more friction on the road?

Forget 35's unless you want to do a lot of cutting and a lot of other mods, trust me I have them.
I used to run 235/85/16 grizzly claws with a 2" lift and they used to rub right round the edge of the arch on full articulation because of the huge side lugs, never really had a problem with the inner arches though. You will have to remove the innner plastic moulding on the front if you haven't already done so.

i have 255/85/r16 (33.7ish) bfg mt they fit fine with a 2 inch lift major arch cutting was done though. all in all i would say there pretty good.

Portals lift the diff too.......
-
that is a good point but portals also cost 2.5k and make the car fall over! and from what i hear there banned in alot of compititions because they offer such an unfair advantage of the extra height and the difflocks
-
235/85 are fine it will catch the rear arch and you will have to trim the front bumper ends but just put them on and trim until the noise stops :D
-
They only just catch the back end, you can cure this by spreading the bottom edge of the body (flaring it out).

I have portals on my disco and it doesn't make the car fall over. It's even much better after we mounted the portal hubs. We mounted larger springs but lowered the car so the horizontal position of the axle is the same as standard. We gained about 5 inches of extra space under the axle. I haven't heard that they're banned in competitions but the costs are very high and it's not just the the portals, everything has to be made stronger after that!

ive also looked at 31-10.5-15 i presume these are the same size as the 235/85 just a bit wider is this right :?

i run 31s with a 2" lift and the inside of the rear arches will need some fairley heavy chopping, but its not too bad. They are slighly wider and smaller than 235/85/16 tyre size.
