Not refering to any particular court case, but why is a life sentence not being banged up for there complete life?? instead of minimun of 15 years ect ??
After all, if a person has comitted such an awfull crime surely they should never be released again,( unless there insane of course) then they go to "hospital"
I guess overcrouding would be more of an issue than it is already,
I have never been to prison( and hope not too 8-[ ) but im sure its not that bad is it ?? so you behave nicely and bobs ya aunty- 12 or more years and your out n about again, probally unlike the person they may of injuerd/killed
I would like to keep this link free of particular cases/names if possible, But im sure there will be some discussion on this one
To put my tuppence in -- I reckon life should be a life term, and other less serious issues should have a time stated and stuck to

The Yanks have the right idea - LIFE + 99.. means they can serve 3 years of their 'life' sentance tbut then have to spend another 99 in prison - effectivly making life mean just that..

becasue it would cost us the tax payer a fortune to keep them in there longer let alone the cost of the extra capacity that would be required
the noose i reckon would be a much better alternative :-$

i would rather be hung than spend the rest of me life in prison though. send em to australia.
life + 99? not sure i get it. 102 years in jail then?

It's about £35,000 per prisoner per annum!
Time to bring back exportation to the colonies.

Time to bring back digging ditches and sewing mailbags. Hell let's send them to that sherrif in Texas with only the weather channel on his satelite ("so they can see if it's gonna rain whilst they're working my chain gang").
If punishmant was punishment maybe it's be a deterant not a reward, if it isn't at least it should generate income.
Maybe we should have prisoners sorting rubbish for recycling?

Life means life to a certyain extent... whenever they get out, they are bailed, not released. So if they get into trouble again... and as I understand it this could mean something as minor as breach of the peace.... they can be returned to prison to serve out their sentance.
Trouble is, this is never reported by our "free media"... freedom doesn't always garuantee the truth!

I'm with RRB on this.
There would be extra cost for staff to watch over the workers, but at least they are putting something into society. Planting people in jail just saps law abiding society of cash. And statistics show that the majority of people who serve a prison sentence re-offend when released anyway. What use is that?
