On the way to work this morning my disco started to vibrate whilst accelerating and make a horrid metallic noise. Once at work i checked the props the rear had some movement so i ordered some bearings and fitted them when i got home. when i test drove the disco the vibrating and noise where still there. Now after some more investigation when i twist the front prop there seems to be quite a bit of metallic clunking coming from the transfer box. OH [!Expletive Deleted!]. If the transfer box is knackered can it be replaced with one from any defender/disco or will it have to be from a 3.9 auto disco?. Cheers Tim :'(

what age is it ???
yes it is a straight swap for a Disco / Defender / Range Rover (dependant on Age & Model)
i have one out of a 1990 (G) 3.5 Disco (200 series) if you need one

Its a 1998 3.9v8 auto. Should know more tommorow night after a friend has cast his over it. Will let you know Ben thankyou

sure youll be ok with bens but think you'll find the ratio different on defender t/box's. theres usually a ratio stamp just below the level plug to the left. think disco's are 1.222. alan.....

The T-Boz will make some noise as you take up the slack in the drive. Try it in difflock with one then the other prop removed, just to be sure it's not one of those.
You can then fit any LT230 you like, or the B-W from a RRC if you fancy it. A Defender T-Box will give you lower gears which help with big tyres
