At last, an article from the BBC that has woken up to the fact that it's not just 4x4s.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7242445.stm
I think this will be the start of a wake up call for some activists AT LAST.

Finally! And being a BBC news item, it's the gospel truth!

Uh-Oh ...
Looks like the congestion charge did have an effect because people are being able to see through the smoke screen :)

In an associated article, even Boris Johnson is talking sense for once!
Boris Johnson, the Conservative candidate for London Mayor, said: "In effect, the mayor has just given the green light for richer people to buy smaller cars and enter the zone for free while families who struggle with one big car are left feeling the pinch."
And those richer people will have bought 2 cars with the associated manufacturing emissions, when they otherwise would have only had one. What sense is there in that?
Equally, I suspect most people here would agree that encouraging people to sell their car and buy a new lower emission car is lunacy. It only becomes sensible once the old car reaches the end of it's working life.
But great to see a BBC article on the subject that shows the stupidity of it all.

I have a simple answer, I don't go to loondun, I hate the place.

This is good news all round to me, I will start looking for a cheap Range Rover V8 4.6 HSE around October then, and convert it to LPG, I've no need to visit London, and don't want to visit the s***hole, the nearest I will ever get is the M25, and as a Blue Badge Holder it wouldn't cost me anything to go there anyway.
Great news, thanks Ken!

I used to drive into London regularly. I knew all the places to park close to Oxford Street or Tower Bridge at the other end of town. I would go for various reasons, none of them business. But as a 'tourist' I would spend money there. These days, I wouldn't even consider the place. The trains are overcrowded and unpleasant. The buses take forever and you need to use 5 of them to get across town.
The last time I went, was for a 5 day course in Regents Park. It required a train, then on the tube. Both were usually packed with standing room only. After day 1, I walked the 3 miles rather than take the tube. I was glad when that week was over.

Wouldn't get me down there for a gold pig, never been and never wanted to - full of warm beer and Southern softees

I think the BBC had to change their reporting stance after being bombard with complaint e-mails last week from other 4x4 forums about mis-reporting the facts.
-
Stuff red Ken and stuff London I don't want to go near the place, just wish the Scots would come down and invade the North I could live with their democracy. I would even wear a wee tartan dress

I would even wear a wee tartan dress
I did for my wedding. Very comfortable :D Not sure I'd get away with it in Norwich city centre though
Some Scottish policies make so much more sense than ours, so I have agree about the invasion!

Neiter of my 4x4 or my high powered sports car fall foul of mr Livingstone and all get comments about planet killing. My missed Honda 2000 does fall foul but no one ever says anything to her about pollution!
I work in central london 3 days a week and the tube is v.nasty at 5.30 but those victorians certainly knew how to dig a tunnel. The traffic however is quite light. But all my toys stay in the sticks!
