i thought i would change the oil in my transfer box, but i cant undo the filler plug ive sprayed it with wd40, used a lump hammer, but it wont budge anyone else got any tips
-
I had trouble with mine a few weeks back. I just wire brushed it, loads of plus-gas (WD40 wont penetrate as well as its claimed) then I used a 6" 1/2" drive extension and my breaker bar on it and it came free eventually - not without me straining my neck muscles though as I was on my back on the drive at the time!
Cant be more help than that I'm afraid.............
-
Assuming its the standard filler plug (square, sunken head), I use a 1/2" ratchet with a two-foot bar attached, works every time
-
Take it to a garage and let them have the trouble
-
Got access to a rattle gun (air ratchet) - that'll shift it!

Lets see you get it in the hole......, the filler on the transfer is behind the handbrake drum...... You could if you take the prop and handbrake drum off......
-
Take the car out and get it ***** hot, the aluminium casing will expand more than the steel plug, and any penetrating oil will be thinnner and get in more easily (note that you are trying to penetrate an oil-tight seal ) then it's bit breaker bar and 2 tins of spinach :cheesy:

Ok, so you get the filler plug off, how do you fill it up once it is drained? the diffs and enngine oil were no problem
-
You drain with the drain plug, you fill via the filler plug, pour it in 'till it runs out. I know it's a PITA to get to, some people use a BIG syringe.

Errr, extension? Mines not 'behind' the transmission brake drum, its just above horizontal center and off to the left when looking from back to front so cant see why it would be a problem? :-k

:-k :-k :-k You got a picture...., if its a square headed bolt that your looking at, thats the gearbox filler.....
The transfer box drain is the brass looking one on the bottom, the filler hole is, as said, behind the brake drum.

Have a look here (http://www.difflock.com/servicing/tdi-6k-service/index.shtml) there are some really good pictures showing the fillers and drains.
