GET the oil pressure chequed with a proper guage, make sure theres sufficient oil pressure, just incase pumps on its way out, or you could scrap you lump.

Agreed but I suspect it's the wiring, the engine rocks when you select a gear and it's shorting to earth.

If it is the engine then when you select a gear the revs drop enough to loose all oil pressure, and it is ALL oil pressure in which case the engine is poorly.

Try thicker oil and change it every 3,000 miles, but TBH it's not long for this world if it is oil pressure, to have the light come on is BAD.

Change the oil sender switch only a few quid and often at fault. If that does not work I'd change the oil pump. Obviously adding new oil and filter. I have had worn pumps and a pump where the bypass was sticking and letting it lose pressure. All worth try before changing the engine.

If worse come to worse I have a good 3.5 V8 Engine you can have for £150 excluding the anciliaries.
