Hi,
I have a new ignition barrel to fit today on my 90.
How do you get the old one off?
Cheers

Hi, you need to drill out the exstisting bolts and replace them with new shear bolts when fitting the new barrel
-
Doh!
had a feeling you might say that.

Why did paddocks not tell me i needed new bolts, or better still for what they charge why did they not include them....grrr  Mad now, and rang two placed who say they don't do them.

Looking at the catalogue at http://www.bearmach.com/acatalog/index.html it looks as if the part number is 51K4001L which loads of people have listed http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=51K4001L&meta= . They could well be available from your local LR dealer at a reasonable cost.
Alternatively, I have on other types of car managed to remove the old shear bolts using a hammer and centre punch to undo the bolt and then use the same method to retighten but it does take ages. I don't know if it's possiblee to try this method on a Defender with the column in situ.

Like Wolfie says, undo the bolts with a hammer and small drift (or equivalent), easy enough to do. I wouldn't reuse the bolts though. Much better to just get them ordered up from LR.
All in all less than an hours job to refit a barrel. Don't start drilling, you don't know what else you may damage ;)

Turns out it was a wire thank god so know need to replace the barrel.
Good job as tried to drill it and was getting no where lol
