What is it with motor manufacturers, need a chime to remind you the lights are on, a chime for when the key is in and mine has a chime to tell me when I am going over 70mph. Now, Ive asked this before but nobody could help.
Its a 300TDi EDC Discovery on an "N" reg (1996) ES.
The damn thing chimes when you go over 70mph, Its exact too, it happens at exactly 70mph on the GPS (74 on the speedo)
I dont need a chime to tell me I am going over 70mph as I have a big dial right in front of me telling me the same thing. Does anyone elses do this and is it removable or curable. The noise seems to come from behind the fusebox somewhere.
Any help greatly appreciated, and Ive tried ear plugs.

simple dont Speed :police:

But if you take it across the channel, you can do 80mph legally...
Edit, are you sure it isn't the GPS? Tomtom units now seem to pick up a warning chime after the current software update, problem is it's often wrong (going off when we were doing a legal 40mph in a 40 limit, for example). Just thinking if it goes off at a GPS indicated 70 (rather than the speedo 70) that might suggest a link?

Or it could be driven from the speed sensor buffer as the speedos are notoriuoulsy inacurate.
Is it V8 or TDi? and is it a grey import?
-
RRB LOOKING AT HIS picture it would gave to be a java black import!
bet its the satnav, mine sends me mad.
-
If it is the TomTom go to preferences, safety, and then untick the warnings for over speed.
-
No its not the satnav, I only have a tom tom one and only use it occasionally, the chime happens when the satnav is left at home.
Wouldn't know if its an import, I dont think it is.
The chime comes from behind the fusebox somewhere buts its difficult to pinpoint.
And I knew someone would say dont speed but yet he without sin cast the first stone

It must be an import - I've never heard of this before on a UK-market Disco. Looking at the RAVE CD it mentions a feed from the speed sensor buffer to the MFU on Gulf spec Discos, also one to cruise control and the ECU. What's the betting that the MFU then translates this into the chime if yours has been wired thusly?

sounds like ajob for the wire cutters :)

Is there any way of telling if its an import ? ie VIN or chassis number maybe ?

Interesting, I was aware that Jaguar tried an overspeed warning light (set at 70mph)(showed a policeman wagging his finger) but not aware of any audible warning. I believe the reason Jaguar didn't go with idea was if you where speeding it was safer for you to be concentrating on what you where doing, not being distracted or blinded by warning lights.
