-
Scraping together £1 in change to put some petrol in RRB's old Escort and go burning round Rotherham for a couple of hours. We'd be lucky to get to the end of the road on £1 worth of fuel these days.
Duran Duran, Culture Club
Wispa bars
Ra ra skirts (not on me, though, I hasten to add! NOT pretty)
The mullet was a trendy haircut
Bowling shoes worn with school uniform (influenced by The Jam)
The launch of Channel 4, with the late 'Twice Nightly' Whiteley hosting the first programme, followed later in the evening by p'tang yang kipperbang (now that's sad)
-
"p'tang yang kippa bang......huh".....also pinch me mates dad's reno 12 out the garage..Pushing it quietly down the road (2am) and out we go...remember him hitting a tree in it.pushed back in the garage and his oldman thought a truck at work must of done it [-X

i remember the old mk1 escorts were still so popular then, all those film you used to watch but now they seem so cheesey, i dont smoke anymore but the price of fags were under £2 for 20 and petrol was about 25p a litre,

born in 73 so i remember the 80's fairly well
saturday afternoons
knight rider or airwolf or a team or street hawk
maguyver was on too i think (what a resourceful guy!)
look-in magazine
beezer/dandy/beano comics
everyone had a bmx trying to copy andy ruffell or eddy fiola
the snow of 81
bucks fizz (the band) and THAT dance move with the skirt... did things to kids back then!
-
A seriously bizarre decade!
My recollections of the 80's?
Hmm.
Bunking off from Sixth Form and getting ratted on cheap Fosters lager.
Having a shiny suit, with a red tie.
Going on a CND march to try and impress a lass I was trying to 'get to know'.
Having a ponytail.
A mates parents getting a new fangled CD player and a copy of Dire Staits 'Brothers in Arms' and trying to work out what the difference was in sound quality while ratted on cheap Fosters lager.
Seeing the Met's Special Patrol Group in action and thinking 'I could do that job'.
Seeing a 'swedish art movie'.
Sitting in a computer class and thinking 'What is the point of this? No one will ever have computers at home! Where is the cheap Fosters lager?"
Seeing Boy George on TOTP and thinking "What the hell is that?"
Watching Bucks Fizz on the Eurovision Song Contest, purely for the bit where the skirts get ripped off.
Having to leave school and get a job! The end of freedom!

Good year 73 (same year i was born!!) I remember watching knight rider through the banister's on the stairs cause i was supposed to be in bed! such good time's....Oh and me dad had an Audi 100 Avant 5E CD and it used to fly!! loved it remember coming back from a firework dispaly with about 6 adult's and 4 kids in it!!!
-
fireworks seemed better back then, louder and you could stand feet away from the bonfire..
also remember in the youth club setting off fireworks, the holder tippnig and the rocket shooting past my head missing me by inches and blowing up on the field
ace!
these days
HSE would go nuts!
oh

Here's a tip for anyone who loved the 70s/80s cop shows like the Proffesionals or Starsky & Hutch.
Don't buy them on DVD and sit and watch them one after another ;)
Once a week is fine, but too often and you start to see the same clips used over again, plus the baddies all drive either a '56 green Chevvy or a brown Grand Torino week after week.
-
After going to see a band first saw in '88 and sitting here with my leg up in the air for it to recover ... I'm convinced I'm still in the 80's ;-)
The 80's for me were the best years of my life :) (born 17171!)
-
aaaah the 80,s
the music seemed so much better :afro: you could have a fight at school without it appearing on you tube the following day
teachers could give the yob element a clip round the ear without fear of a law suit
we were genuinely respectful of the old bill =;
we could throw sticks at conker trees without the health and safety risk assessment police stopping us and then have a conker fight without safety goggles

Monkey was a bit more 'accessable' than The Water Margin', just a bit of fun really
BJ & The Bear still has a following (http://groups.msn.com/BJandTheBearFanClub)
"Right Turn", of course refers to the 2 Clint Eastwood films; 'Every Which Way But Loose' & 'Any Which Way You Can'
The 'motor-cycle gang was 'The Black Widows', in case anyone's trying to think of them
I've still got a copy of the 45RPM single for 'E W W B L', by Eddie Rabbit
Off course not forgetting Kickstart loved watching that
Presented by Peter Purves, it introduced riders like Eddy Lejeune, Bernie Schreiber (tall American on a green Italjet)
Was Dougie Lampkin on the Junior version????
Great series, had a look, there's a few clips on 'YouTube'
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pja9Y7JIJBg
