they havent worked for a while but i need to get them sorted for my mot in a couple of months.
where can i check?
-
Switch on the gearbox, bulbs and fuses
Just as a point AFAIK it is not an mot tested item
-
I don't think its an MOT item either, the ones on my Disco only work if you hold the gear lever in reverse, and it hasn't failed in the last 5 years.
Don't worry about it. ;)

No they are not covered by mot!!
-
They are not a legal requirement, but if you want to get them working then the switch is best accesed by taking the top off the transmission tunnel, you can see the thing then.
-
the ones on the disco are operated by a switch on the cubby box

My first point of call with any light(s) not working (evean if its a pair) is the bulb(s). Usually a light not working is a blow bulb or a bad earth between bulb and holder (particuarly if its been exposed to moinsture).

Actually that reminds me. On the Range Rover the rear wiring loom goes up the front A pillars and accross the roof. There is a joint-block at either end of the dashboard and I've ended up replacing ours after almost every light in the back end stopped working at one time or another. It would be a coincidence if both reversing lights had gone out together though, but another thing to check.
