well today i thought i would tacklemy boot floor however i wanted to do it on the cheap using what ever steel i could find in my bosses workshop.
i was hoping i could get my hands on a sheet of alloy and rivit it over the top after pulling all the rust out but working 6 days a week dont leave much time for finding anywhere that sells the stuff!
i managed to get hold of a sheet of steel 1m x 2m so had to make do with that but being only 1m wide ive had to start to try and remove as much rot as i can so i could weld a strip of angle to the body so i have somthing to fasten the new floor to if that makes sence?
heres some pics of my progress so far i still have to weld somthing along the lip near the back door and make another new cross member to replace the one that was over the fuel tank and pacth up a few small holes i have left. i then intend to fix the floor in two peices using tex screws which are a self drilling bolt so that i can have easy access if i ever need it any comments welcome as to be honest im just making it up as i go along.

looks like your doing just fine on your own to me, and the now the center floors gone the edges actually look very good for a disco!
normally by the time youve finishe digging all the rot out, you are back to the wings!

to be honest im having a bit of trouble welding when i start to weld the first six inches go allright but then it starts to fart and pop but it seems if i leave it a min or two its fine again for another few inches. the welder is a fairly large 250amp so im sure its not that so it must be somthing im doing wrong although i have cleaned both edges back and the clamp is allways on a fairly clean patch so any advise welcome but im now off in 30 mins to do some more so by the time i get your advise i should of completed it.
cheers

Looks good.
Reminder to self: Must get another MIG
I ended up plating up the rear body X-member with my ancient Arc welder last year.

if it welds for 6 inches then goes tits up, as long as its set right then ,when was the welder serviced last? never i should think, relays wear out.
Plus have you enough gas, its about the ony thing i can think off, as when you pull the trigger for about a second or two it purges plenty of gas then runs at the pressure you set, try a bit more gas, then after that, without having a look and try, im stuffed.
-
I'd say gas too :D
though I'd also check the earth wire at the other end as these can get corroded and get hot were they enter the machine .
And clean the tip and shroud now and again so the gas cone is in the right place.
Looks good though I'm hoping to do mine on the summer I was going to use clinch threads (threaded barrels that poprivit onto a hole ) so I can lift the floor to work on the A frame and chassy :D

cheers for the welding info i will try the gas next time as im sure there will be a next time how ever i finished the floor yesterday and im fairly pleased with the final result the total cost was £35 which was mainly spray tins and a tube of guttering sealant as it was all i could find that was black.
the only downside was i ended up doing it in one section and using rivits as time was knocking on and i was getting fed up of having my head in the boot :-> i will get some pics up
