hi, my rangie has 35/12.50R15 on 15x8 rims is this a safe rim width? Ben
-
Sounds big to me but I no expert :?
Maybe try a post in modified for more experienced/informed opinion ?
-
YES THATS OK MATE, BUT THE MINIMUM WIDTH you would mount them on.
IVE Always had 35/12.5/15 on 8x15 mods and do motorway driving and chuck it about, never had a problem.

Not within specification for BF Goodrich Mud Terrains http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/mud-terrain-t-a-km/1152.html
33x12.50R15/C 108Q RWL 49617 8.5 - 11 12.5 on 10 32.8 21 634 2205@35 KM
35x12.50R15/C 113Q RWL 64749 8.5 - 11 12.5 on 10 34.8 21 598 2535@35 KM
But check the data published by the manufacturer of your tyres, maybe they are ok on that narrow a rim.
[edited to include the appropriate data, cos the monkey pressing the keys has been on the beer again  ]

yes they ideally want to be on a 10" rim , but all the 4x4 garages fit them to the 8" rims that i have ever phoned.

How confident are you that they are safe? Just consider what would happen if an idiot drove into you but had the benefit of a thorough insurance inspector.
-
very as ive been using them for the last 9 or 10 years and never had a problem, used to drive like a loony, never were a problem, been sideways in a ditch, they werenot a problem, and if they were an insuranceissue, then they ought take that up with the garage that fitted them, as i said, all the ones ive ever called fit them on these rims, some did say better on10"" but ok on8" and sell them like it.
it is definately safe, and thats what he asked.
there are loads of things that i bet most people on here have that areperfectly safe, but an insurance claim might be made difficult due to something or other.

I got the BFG Mud terrain tyres, the only thing im worried about is going off road and a tyre comes off its rim, looking more into it a lot of people have 12.50 fitted to 8'' rims so they must be o.k, Ben
-
i think you will find nearly all of them have.
-
But the question also has to be posed, is how many dealers refer to the reconmended sizes and not just fit what is the cheaper option............
-
I ordered my spare wheel/tyre from Devon 4x4, it arrived yesterday I was expecting it to be on a 8x15 rim but it came on a 10x15 rim, it seems not all company's go for the cheap option  Ben

TBH with the amount they sell I don't think the cost will be a lot different, but then D44 don't tend to cut corners anyway.
