Well, I tried to fit my new exhaust today to my rover.
It took alot of sawing with a junior hacksaw as that is all I could get into the space to saw through the support hangers on the exhaust and through the front pipe. Eventually it came out all in 1 big piece. Now I get to play with the petrol angle girnder to chop it up into bits :dance:
I spent ages fitting the new exhaust to find the middle to back joint blows a gooden and the exhaust sleeve to join the new and old front pipe together is a wierd fit. It is very snug around the old pipe, so snug I had to tap it on with a hammer but the new one is that much smaller in diameter that the clamp wont go tight enough around the new pipe to make a good seel. Anyone got any ideas how to fill the gap?
I will be getting the rovers bum in the air tomorrow and concentrate on the rear section first. Once I have that sorted I will look at the front again.
So after 4 hours I have a shiny exhaust under the rover but worse blowing than when I started. :twisted: Oh and less skin! :lol:

Get yourself a big tube of silicone mate,the clear stuff,put around the joins and let it go off.

no never use silicone (unless it is High Temperature Silicone) get proper Exhaust paste and Chuck that round the area with engine running so you know that it has sealed the blow

If I were you I'd start at the front, the back end just has to look nice, the front end has to mate with the engine.

after fighting with the exhaust on the disco james i know how u feel i think in future and after much swearing and skinloss im definatly paying someone to do it next time

took me that just in swearing at the hanger for the back box frank [-X and at one point it was very close to being slung down the drive :evil:

I did a series 3 exhaust really easily.
I do have a new friend now though. gun gum!!! Oh yes.
the middle to back section I just unbolted and re aligned and that did the job there but the front section with the joining sleeve to the smaller diameter new exhaust was a right PITA. So as time was pressing on I bought some gun gum to fill the gap and silence! I ran the engine on tick over for an hour to harden the gum up and leaving it over night so fingers crossed it should harden up nicely and never blow again. Famous last words!
So exhaust 1, me and the gum 1 :lol: I hope that doesn't make "love". Doesnt make duice either :lol:
It did blow some watery type stuff out the joints when I first started it though. Is this water or something else as some went in my eye. It didnt sting and I can still see.

I always slap a load of Holts Gun Gum paste on the joints, that usually does the trick.

Most garages use silicone now and it lasts for ages,stands loads of heat,even your Kwik fits use it,swear by myself,if you havn't used it then try it.but make sure joints are dry and as clean as you can get them or it won't work properly.

My mate runs a tyre place in rusden and they use silicon for cheapness and to get it done it quicker than a kwik fit fitter! ;)
