Title: Petrol / Diesel Chassis
Post by: stuntman on February 28, 2008, 11:45:46
Hello again.

I'm in the process of pur-chasing a new chassis and body from ben on here,

My question is are there any differences in engine and body mount positions? if there is, are they easy enough to put right?

I'm just really fed up with my rusty old wreck of a truck, also if I swap a 5 door shell for a 3 door, how do I go about telling the dvla about the change? And will I encounter any problems?

Cheers.

The plan is to re-chassis my J plate disco 5 door, with the one from ben's 3 door, and eventually change my 5door shell for a 3 door one. If anyone can help please post or pm me!

Regards

Andi K

According to the microcat catalog.  There are several different chassis depending on engine fitted. also there are 3 different gearbox crossmembers. Whether you'll be able to modify/adapt a v8 chassis to take a TDi engine I don't know. But I suppose been a LR anything is possible.

you CAN modify a V8 chassis to house a diesel, but it involves moving mounts.

Sounds like a hell of a lot of messing about to me, and what identity would you use after chassis and body swap?? :?

It would be a hybrid, or as Jonny would say...., its a 200, 300, tdi, V8, auto, manual, LT77, R380......., you get wear I'm going.

As said, what a lot of mucking about...., by a good motor, it's cheaper, unless you know someone who will do it as a labour of love....

There are 3 gearbox crossmember but they are interchangeable, the early one is a box section on the V8 and the exhaust goes above it, then came the tubular one on the 3.9 with the exhaust below it, then the TDi one that's further back and again is a box section.

I've had 2 different types on Blue already ;)
