Anyone else notice the recent interview with Harry?
Why was he wearing an American Flag on his cap!!!
Total disgrace in my opinion!!!
-
nothing wrong with it,
although i bet he is well wound up because i bet they will bring him home now everyone knows where he is
-
Where is he.....?
THe US have AWACs, drone planes, Special forces and the Taliban have ITV news......
DOH!
.
-
Nothing Wrong with it !
Have I been asleep then for a while?, are we now simply reserves for the american's
Guy should be flying the flag, NOT the stars and stripes
Not the first time he's got it wrong either!!!
-

The lad is out there fighting and you're worried about his attire. It's a bl@@dy cap, get over it. What do you think would be better. A trilby? A bowler? Or maybe a flat cap?
Did like the back of it though 'We do bad things to bad people'
-
So let's put him in a Hummer
Give the guy sponsorship from CNN and let him wear a tee shirt to promote Hershey bars?
So far I've not had a real opinion on this as a war, (apart from the loss of life) but this to me looks as though he is out there supporting the american effort
After all, where did the leak come from? This side of the pond?

Well said Hightower.
Who cares what flag he is wearing. He is out doing something real instead of doing what the rest of the royals do which is moan about each other in the press.
Let the kid be and let him get on with his job instead of picking such stupid trivial things to argue about.
We have enough bother in this country without this kind of stupid pathetic argument about what flag he wears on his bleeding hat!!!!!!!!!
-
.
Who cares
My thoughts exactly - about the whole circus. He's in the Army - why shouldn't he be out there?
-
The sad thing is he's probably been yanked back home already so as not to increase the risk to the guys around him. Bloody septics can't keep their nose out of anything and all it seems he wanted to do was to serve alongside his mates and be treat like everyone else.
Maybe the stars 'n' stripes were part of the disguise.
-
I now have the utmost respect for him, fighting for his country (forget the politics)
Same as Andrew fighting in the falklands
Thats the problem with this country, its not pc to be patriotic
-
Firstly who cares what he has on his cap! I don't.
Secondly the boy has balls, he is now the no1 target out there so you have to give him that for courage.
He is like no other soldier he is fighting for his country.
He came across like a normal soldier during the interview and showed maturity and I too have the utmost respect for him, he will hopefully continue in the army.
-
So a young guy goes to war and fights for his country
Meets up with similar guys from other parts of the world doing the same thing
They exchange 'bits of kit'
and then some 'inconsiderate persons' (polite version) slag him off in a forum on the internet [-X
I give him the utmost respect!, he has done something most people on here have chosen not to do, he certainly has ba11s
Good luck to him
-
It was quite pleasing to see he had finally been able to get out there.
Have I been asleep then for a while?, are we now simply reserves for the american's
Yes, sadly. Something that this government is going to leave behind as their legacy among many other things. :(
-
i say yes give him a hummer, at least it wont break down.
he is amongst the top people in the world to be assasinated, and he has gone out to a war zone , his chioce, you have to respect that, top bloke, and as for his kit, from the little i know about the british army and their kit, i know whose kit id rather be using.
-
I hope he doesn't get special treatment now, if he get killed it will be bad for his family but in war it happens.
Leave him there to do his job!!

Well the man did turn up to a party wearing a Nazi uniform can we expect better [-X

The guy is doing his job that he has been trained to do at tax payers expense. From what I have heard, the story was leaked by the Yank press, which goes to show that the integrity of the Press in States is about as good as their diplomacy skills and intelligence gathering abilities, namely crap!
I admire the chap for going out there, as I have admiration for all the personnel of all the countries that are out there doing a job that is particularly crappy.
If Harry wants to go out there and do it, good on him. The fewer Taliban the better. He is one of few members of Royal family how has actually got the guts to go out and do 'The Biz'. A bit better that his Uncle Edward, who 'left' the Marines to try and be an actor.
As for showing the flag. So what? We are all on the same side aren't we? My son wore bits of Russian army kit and weaponary when he was in Afghan. Does that mean he was showing disrespect and being unpatriotic? Does it arse!
All the troops from all arms need our support, not forgetting the 'Civvy' medical teams, Police, Fire and Rescue teams that are out there as well. They don't get mentioned.
With reference to the 'corporate logo' on the cap, it reminded me of a visit that I did to USAF base at Mildenhall. I was given a presentation medal by the chief NCO of the Armourers Unit, that a picture of The Grim Reaper holding a smoking bomb on it, with the logo "helping our enemies die for their cause". In my opinion it showed a rare side to the Americans, namely humour. ;)
-
i give him the most respect as i do all people that fight for there country, i aint got the balls to do it, what they where ?, does it matter all the people moaning would you go and fight for your country, if you have much respect but if you havnt dont moan about others,
-
It's a Shame that none of the PM's (well former PMs) kids were in the army, we might have paid a bit more thought as to whether we got involved in the first place that way ...
Note, not trying to put a politcal spin on the matter, just suggesting that it might have had an impact on how we treat our soldiers and their widows. The only real matter is disagree with the war if you like, heaven knows there are a whole host of reasons to do so, but you should respect the people we send over there to fight it for us. Their leadership might be questionable, their loyalty isn't :)
And I say good luck to him, I'm semi amazed that he was allowed out to serve in the first place, and I dare say that he's had to fight more people to be allowed to "do his duty" than he has in the execution of it :?
-
Its a shame it was all leaked out!
I have certainley got more respect for him now, looks like the war is over for him now though! Clicky (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/20080229/twl-prince-harry-s-afghan-war-is-over-3fd0ae9.html)

Top bloke. He's doing what a lot of lads his age are doing, serving there country.Well done.
And yes they brought him home. Why do the yanks have to get involed .
I did hear today that it was first on a Australian web site but no one picked up on it.
-
Good for him, he wanted to go and I think the idea was to make people think he wasn't going then sneaking him out on christmas eve
Once out there, it would be difficult to spot him to say the least, the reason for the American hat may well be for the job he's been doing, and air op, most of the close air support out there will be American, so he's been trained in their radio procedures, and would have had close contact with them
The leak was bound to comeout sooner or later, his absence was going to be missed the longer he was out of the limelight
It's a shame he could not complete the tour though, they have lost a good officer now, and he has to be replaced and the replacement will have to get to know how the group operates, no too easy on a war zone, good luck to his replacement
I've a feeling Harry has not finished yet, I'm sure we will be hearing from him in the future

I dont think I've made my point too well, I have absolute respect for his deternimation and the fact he's out there
My dissapointment is with his 'apparent' advertisement for the great US of A
Richo, you make the pont well, why do the yanks have to get involved?
Our lad's get on with the job quietly and without the drama, in very difficult circumstance. We are NOT american, we are better than that!!!
Wearing the stars and stripes doesnt cut the mustard for me,
I was simply making the point that he's a british soldier, and as such should be careful of wearing anything that gives the impression he's simply a pawn of the USA. (Which he isn 't and should never be seen as!)
-
He's wearing american kit, just shows that even royalty can't get all the required kit without buying some from the yanks.
Not a really big concern when some git is lobbing mortars and nome made bombs at you. Just shows that he is supporting the allied co-operation.
As the flying the correct flag, the Yanks are the only allied troops in the area that get out of the main camps and go toe to toe with the bad people. Unlike the cowadice gits hiding in the holes in the ground and refusing to grow a spine and do some work outside their camps fence line.

From what I have heard, the story was leaked by the Yank press,
Are you sure? I understood the news blackout was broken by French television. At least, that's what has put peoples lives in extra danger. The original leak doesn't really matter until someone tells the enemy.
As for the cap..... I think he has more important things to worry about right now than what he is wearing.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case, but apparently it was put on an American website, then picked up by an Australian paper, and it snowballed from there.
I saw an interview with him on the BBC, and I could have sworn he said "I don't like England very much at the moment because of the Press, and all the sh*t they write about us".
If he did say that, and having a grandfather who regularly turns the air blue, good on the chap.
-
Its a cap! WOW...... Whats the big deal, I wore a NY cap for years, is that a big sin...? who cares what was on his cap, he a young soldier in combat, I figure he has other things on his mind.
-
Whats that word these young uns like, errrrr????? :? :? :?
Yes thats it fashion
Its called civvies in the forces, and when off duty fine, you dont expect him to wear a combat helmet do you, could have been worse may have worn a stormtroopers helmet, oh no that was for fance dress
-
whilst i agree that he has ballls for getting his job done as he is paid to do so but seriously today on the evening news they went on for nearly fifteen minutes at how great he is and as a passing footnote added that a member of the forces died today.... i am sorry but there is too much media hype in him doing what he is paid to do, when there are so many people doing it and getting maimed killed injured etc and given hardly any recognition.... the devils advocate question is whether he is doing it for want or to please/upset nanny dearest or get one up on his father???? or even to provoke a little respect from the public?!?!?!?!?
-
Been there ... done it.... so AM speaking from first hand experience unlike many others, although everyone is entitled to an opinion,
utmost respect that he went out he is a fantastic example for the Royal family but the cap is a bad idea, how can you expect men to follow orders and discipline if the example set is incorrect. If you are going to chastise soldiers under your command you must be setting the correct example yourself.
uniform is issued and should be worn correctly... too many soldiers on ops suddenly think they are Michael Ryan and can dress and act however they feel. Discipline and the chain of command keeps our army at the forefront as an example to other nations
Dress and uniform may be a minor issue but from small acorns..... as they say
Civilians on here may find this a strange pedantic opinion but in a life n death situation the guys below you must respect you and be ready to do as you say without question, you must set a correct example or risk being labelled a hypocrite and losing their respect
on ops the blokes cant just say B***ox to their managers and walk out for the day as many could in a civvie job
small things like that stick in the blokes minds and mount up in what is a very stressfull situation
He will cop flack for it and rightly so but the utmost respect for going there when he could of hid behind his gran
Cheers Steve
