The battery has died and i cant open the disco ! also the battery from halfords to replace it is £96 ( Halfords Calcium Battery HCB072 ) is this right ? seems expensive any ideas how to get in and how to replace the battery ???
-
Have you tried the back door and that price is very steep.
-
thats just it ive got a bulkhead in and cant get through to get to the bonnet pull !!!
-
Using the key manually should still work ! and that is normal price for a battery - cost of lead has gone up big style. Be careful with the Halfords one though, the connections aren't necessarily in the correct place. The main dealer is only about £4 more and they fit it for you.
-
have you not thought to just put jump leads onto it and then unlock it?
-
USE THE KEY
-
how to i open the bonnet without getting in to the car ? then i can use jump leads :)
-
you don't need electrickery to open the drivers door just turn the key in it.
Cosco has a landie battery for £56. that's the heavy dut one.
-
nope if i turn the key in either door it does not open :( also no were near a cosco - or a member ! will have to get one locally for £90 :( will prob have to call the AA to work out how to get the bonnet up !
-
definitely the price of the battery at the moment, i have recently been looking round myself.
as said, you should at least be able to open the drivers side door with the key?

yup very steep and i have just bought the damn thing to find it wont fit the battery clamp anyways but it starts ok

Could you jump a positive to the back of the starter main feed and negative to the chassis as that would power the electrics
-
Check out Paddocks they are doing Red optima batteries for £99 (and i presume +VAT)

As for getting in the vehicle, try the old metal wire coathanger through the door seal to pop open a lock, do you have breakdown like aa or rac they may be able to come out to you and sort it, or a local garage with the sliders to open the door down the window

yep ,will work iff ya carefull , i was going to suggest the same thing .....
-
Can't see why using the key won't work myself....., does on mine....
-
sounds like lock fault or someone has disconected them ,. it can happen. alan....

How does he get to the back of the starter main feed without opening the bonnet?
-
go below with a torch and a bit of nible fingery....
also try the other doors (passenger and boot) for "openability"
would have thought it would be possible to get the bonnet open fron again underneath, or through the grill?
-
The locks do seize - I recently had cause to lock mine manually (battery died, would unlock but not start, obviously didn't want to leave it unlocked while going into town for new battery) and the locks were very stiff. Will dribble some WD40 into them when I remember.

if you go under the front of the truck oh [!Expletive Deleted!] it if you call me in the morning i will tell you how to do it with minimal efort and dammage mate my number is 01536 424952  oh yea get some bonnet pins much easyer

Either a jump lead ontot he starter (though IIRC it's not easy to get at on a TDI or if you have electrics on the back (especially if you have 12N and S) then one of the leads will be batery power.
If you don't have a towbar then there is a wire provided in the wiring loom on the back RHS corner for the towbar that is battery live, if you can get the taill light out.
