Title: How long to swap and engine and 'box?
Post by: stuntman on February 29, 2008, 21:25:53
Hello again everyone.

Just a quick question to anyone that's done it before.

I may be able fto get my hands on a disco with engine and gearbox.

My question is, how long will it take a reasonable competant diy mechanic to remove an engine and box from one car and drop it into another disco? Also does anyone have any experience of doing this? would it be better to swap them seperatly, ie remove the engine and then the gearbox?

Please help! I am having a nightmare with my sheddy old disco!

Is 2 days about right?

it took me and a mate and the rangie 3 hours to get engine, gearbox and Transferbox out in one and we wasnt rushing but have both removed engines and gearboxes before

i would suggest you seperate the Gearbox from engine pull the engine out and drop the gearbow and Transferbox out from underneath

Andi

With a good engine hoist you can take the lot out it one go.

Should take you a day to remove/replace same.

Disco and budget do not go together  :-> :-> [-o<

Well I've landed luck!

I've bought a new disco today, same colour, same reg, same spec!

I'm really happy! The engine is shot and it needs quite a bit of work, but the body and chassis are in bloody great condition which I'm so chuffed about.

And I picked it up about 15 miles away and for £300 I can't tell you how happy I am!

Well plan of action is drop my engine in, body lift of 75mm, suspension on, window tints in, sell the bits of mine and buy castor correction arms, and spring spacers.

Oh the fun and joy of discos!
