Title: Moving down under...
Post by: chris9119 on March 05, 2008, 19:07:24
If this is the calibre of the countries politicians, then I'm off to join dazzawhipple....

Prime Minister John Howard - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture.. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, British citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths....

He gets my vote.....

Just to point out that although the sentiments posted in the "quote" were said, they were not said recently, or in fact as one speech  ;)

Me, for one. I've been looking at what they call 'hobby farms' in Queensland..... you know, 500-1000 acres! I just have to persuade SWMBO that is would be a good idea to persue. Unfortunately, that is where the plan falls down.... I've been told I'd have to go on my own  Oh well, it's been nice knowing her

Agree, but feel the French approach to religion a better one. They respect all equally and allow all to believe what they want, but won't allow any religion into the state. Sounds perfectly fair to me!

Never said it was one speech or recent, but it was said, by him and thus must be his beliefs and many Aussies and others nationalities....

I'm an athiest, which is apparently a religeon, does that mean I am not welcome in the UK as it is primarily CofE?

Quote
'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

Is it a myth that the colony was formed from criminals that we sent there because the prisons were full (HONEST QUESTION)

Ditto, me to.., what church do you go to?

Everyone is welcome within the UK, but if you cannot agree to abide by the principles/origins of the host nation, then no, you would not be welcome to live here..., and that's my opinion.

We could get into a really deep and meaningful debate about this subject, but why not just say, live and let live, but comply with the Laws of the Land and where these originated from....

That's exactly what happened 200 years go, if you don't abide by our rules - we kick you out. The only difference was that they were subjects of the UK.

Me three, hence my view that we should be adopting the French approach to these things!
