We have a nice new flat screen digital TV, works a treat.
Now we have got rid of the old digital box as the TV has built in free view we cannot tape the digital channels off the telly it only tapes, the analog.
Do we have to buy a digital dvd recorder now?
Any ideas??

if its in-built i dont think you can record it
you shouldnt have gotten rid of the external box :)
but if you do want to record off freeeview then get a hd freeview recorder

Ta, thats what I thought... Still have the box, just its on another telly, probably be cheaper to transfer the vid to the telly in the kitchen.

The cheapest option is probaly another Digibox (£20 or less) and use that to 'feed' the video.

A nice new TV - don't skimp, get yourself a nice new DVD recorder with built in Freeview to match.

This intrigues me - having a dvd recorder etc and never actually using it more than twice to record. Do people actually record things to keep? Or to watch when they are out - if so - how do you manage to find the time? I find if I miss something it is soon repeated......then I can watch it in real time :roll:

If you are wanting to just record the digital channels to watch at a later date why not get a Freeview box with hard disc recorder? We just bought one at christmas for £70 with a twin tuner so if necessary we can record two channels onto the same hard drive.......... this also enables you to pause live tv if you get a phone call or a visitor comes round what ever without the need to be rummaging round for discs or videos.

I tend to tape stuff if I'm going to be out, then watch it when I get back. I don't think I've bothered taping (DVDing to be more accurate) a film to keep for ages though. Older films can be had so cheaply now via Amazon that it's not really worth the effort.

I just download anything I miss. Most of the channels have now made that real easy by putting them up on their websites.

Check the Scart cable you are using. most TVs should be able to do thins, I know mine can if I ever tuned it in.

I'm still using a set-top box and a HDD/DVD recorder, it's great as you can skip the adverts :) but the DTV tuner on the TV is wasted.
I'm looking for a HDD with twin Freeview tuners as you can "tape" one side and watch another with time slip, you use it when the wife speaks during an important bit of the plot ;).
However I now hear that Freeview HDTV will be rolled out as ealry as the end of this year in some areas, with free sat another option, so I'm keeping my pockets closed on this one, I was lucky to join the right side in the Blue Ray/HD-DVD war so I don't want to loose out now.
That said I struggoe to tell the difference between DVD on composite vodeo (720 lines) and blue ray DVD on 1080 progressive, so I hope HD TV is a bot more of a revalation.
