Title: engine problem now wont go past 65mph
Post by: paranoid android on March 11, 2008, 18:58:46
on saturday i filled my engine half bio half diesel for the first time, everything was fine and even sounded smoother till 18 miles into the tank my lift pump went completely, found out it had been bad for a while and was going to go eventually, so i replaced it with a new one slightly different but i was assured its what landrover recommend now, anyway fitted it and went for a drive to check its ok and now i cant get past 65mph (use to get it to 85 easily) and everygear seems to work fine but not does not give me that extra push that i use to have?  :-k any ideas? all help appreciated.

Have you changed the fuel filters since adding bio fuel?

Bio fuel seems appears to dislodge and hold on to crub more than diesel, so when you first switch there is useually a fair bit of curd in the tank which ends up getting draw into the filter.

Filters should be changed after 1 good big run or a full tank, apparently it flushes all the waxy rubbish out of your tank and then blocks up the fuel lines and filtger.

depends how clean your tank is, could only take a little bit of waxy diesel rubbish to partially block something.

or if your land rover has only ever been run on dodgey red diesel from a jerry can thats had a number of different fluids in it then switching to bio will mean you have to abandon your land rover 75 miles away for a week then when you get it back completely overhaul the fuel system flushing everything a million times!!!

Josh,

You'll be surprised to know that mine has done exactly the same, the Bio supplier did say that a filter change would be needed after a few miles, mine has been up to the peak district over the weekend and wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding on the way back.

I've ordered a couple of new filters to sort it out.

I gave up on bio junk because I was swapping the fuel filter with every tankfull.  Tiny little beads of wax so aft you can't collect them but they were strangling the fuel filter.
