Title: Two Inch Lift for Disco 2
Post by: Landyrover on March 12, 2008, 21:08:32
Hi All,

Al planning to give my Disco 2 a two inche lift to accomodate bigger wheel/tyre combination. Does anybody have any recommendations for specific parts? It has air suspension at the back, so I know spacers will be needed + new springs for the front, and presumably longer shocks...

Any advice will be gratefully received :)

Cheers,

Nick

Why not lose the air springs and fit coils all round?
Old Man Emu do 2" lift springs for D2's and all the other parts for changing the bags for coil's are off the shelf products

Not sure how you go about lifting the badck of the air suspension model other than replrograming the ECU, but would the travel be too restrictive without modified air bags :-k

If you have the cash look at http://www.rover-renovations.com/DiscoII-Airspring-p/rkb101200.htm

I have them on my LSE   http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Range%20Rover%20Blues/gallery/EAS/0/ba2fa2e00651aa239374c9fee8601a68.JPG/QSBtYXNzaXZlIDNpbmNoZXMgZXh0cmEgdHJhdmVs

Definitely recommend Old Man Emu.

Have a chat with either Discoparts or Devon 4x4 to get the best price etc.  WRT air, simply pad out the bags with a spacer and fit longer shocks.

If you space out the air bags don't you need longer bump stops too :-.

i started with 2" then went to 4" on my D2.
Can be done with spacers but depends on what ur going to do. if it isjust for show and you are not going to use it off road then fine just fit some spacers all round with some OME shocks.
If you are going to use it off road the biggest proble is the ABS/TC sensors on the rear. With articulation they pop out at the joint in rear arch. The rear bags also wear very quickly.

Best bet is to convert to springs all round otherwise the rear air bags inflate and make the ride very hard.
Call mark at discoparts and he will supply Front and rear springs and OME shocks all 2" lifted.
Just need to get some defenfer spring seats and then get someone to change the ecu to spring rather than air. (Search for Porny he has kit)

With the bags and compressor off put on eblag and that will pay for the conversion and you will have a better ride.
Also need to change the rear ACE drop links to front.

If you just want spacers or anything PM me lots ot tips with D2
Be prepared for watts linkage to wear quickly as arm is resticted movement on near side.

Than for all the helful advice! :D

I hadn't thought about replacing the air springs at the back with coils... that would mean losing the SLS, etc wouldn't it? Though given the wear factor, vulnerability of the sensors, hard ride, etc I can see there are some advantages to doing this. I have contacted Mark at Discoparts whose quoted me for the front springs/spacers/shocks setup, seems a good price.

Looking ahead a bit further, what wheel/tyre combination do folk recommend? I'm looking for extra clearance and being able to fit AT/MT pattern for greenlaining. Had BFG Tracedges and then MT's on my last 90. I've got 18" alloys but looks like 16" best choice? In fitting a larger wheel/tyre combo, will any camel cuts or similar to the bodywork be needed?

Cheers,

Nick

I am assuming you are pretty "hard core" with your off roading, obviouslly you are not lifting it 2" just for going down green lanes are you?

Nick,

If you're putting a 2" lift on it then you can fit 265/75R16 MTR's on it with no cutting at all.  That's what I currently have on mine.  I am however going to be swapping for 265/65R18 ATR's shortly.  The only reason for doing this is because I'm not playing in it as much as before and I think that ATR's will be better for what I want.

If you want some 16" alloy wheels then give me a shout as I have a set in the garage doing nothing  ;)  You could then put your MTR's on them and keep the 18's for road use.

Off course there is always the option of going for mud/all terrain on 18" if buying second sets of wheels is'nt an option.
