I've just had a set of BFG AT's fitted to my V8i and I noticed that the rear anti-roll bar was detached on the near-side - ball joint popped... :'(
So do I get new joints and bushes etc... or do I take the bars off.
I don't do any off-roading yet but plan to as the weather improves and lanes are opened up. The beast is pretty much standard at the moment.

I guess they are fitted for a reason - probably safety, so I would suggest keeping them on.
-
If the car is staying standard height then leave them on and replace the ball joints for nice new ones (not very dear)
If your going to lift the car you might want to consider removing them, or adding spacers
:D
-
yes as jake says if staying standard replase parts
but if lifting it fit new anti-roll bars and put them the other way round (thus eliminating the need for spacers) i have done it on a mates car and it works very well
-
If it's been off for a while, you won't miss it-take it off.
If you find the car a bit leany, a bit of a handful on corners, a bit of understeer then put it back on.
Ben, you put it on upside down :-k do you mean the end links on the back upside down, as in where they try to end up anyway?
If memory serves mine hit the spring that way and they limit travel too, so I'm confused :?
-
yes i undo the 4 muts that holt the short tie bars on and let the bar level off and fit them hanging down instead of upwards
-
Ive fitted new scorpion springs and shox with 1" lift and left front and rear anti-roll bars off for articulation. It appears to corner with as much composure as with original set up but i have heard some MOT stations will fail them so have kept all the parts!!
-
they cant fail them if there is no evidence that they were ever there as some 200 disco's had Anti roll bar brackets on the Chassis and Axle but were never fitted with the bars, like my mums old MPI had

Cheers Ben, I had heard that too but some MOTers are a law unto themselves, i'll just look round for a station that doesnt fail them :P
-
Tye tune in rushton my mate works there

For green laning and P&P on a standard disco then a bit less articulation is not going to be a pressing issue, especially as most of the time will most likely be spent on road, so you will probably be better off with them fitted rather than removed. If at a later date your off roading and/or suspension becomes a little more wild then you can always remove them latter.

OFF
:)

I've never felt the need to remove mine. Can't say I've ever got stuck or lost traction because of them!

I have 2 on the back of Blue, the LPG tank is heavy as are the dogs. I spaced the ARB by the same amount as the lilft so that it works as designed. Eventually though I ripped the brackets off the axle, so i fabricated some H/D brackets higher up on the axle, these work really well.

You can just see the remains of the original bracket.
This is the best i cam manage at present, plans are to remove the polybushes and fit early RRC rubber ones 9the softer type) then devlop a reliable disconnect for the ARB.

Where would you lot reccomend some spaces from?

i am just guessing as jake has posted suggesting them that devon 4x4 do them :D

Towbar spacers have the holes injust the right places, though they are bigger. Be careful you don't get the ones cast with a void in the middle though ubless you fit a thin plate in there too.
You can just see one under the mud

on with all parts in good nick and set up right :D
-
IF you want articulation and its a 'lifted' motor - TAKE 'EM OFF!
Othrewise you'll just limit the travel and the motor will start to 'wave wheels' .............. it does mean that you'll inevitably have to cut back the arches to allow the wheels room to travel too.

mine are off and i have been through and passed 2 MOT's since (that will have put the kibosh on the on due end of April Now :-# )

I have decided to get new bits and put it back on for now - I'll see how it goes once I start going off-road in earnest...
