Hi got got a disco in a perfect condition for £400 (the guy ibought it off was a muppet not a mud clubber btw) and the water level keeps going down i have left cap off to see if air in there and it got rid of a load but i been told i got white smoke/steam coming out of exhaust, the cooling system i fine and oil cap is normal no white stuff, any suggestions on what could be happening for loss of water pls :-k ps there no visable leaks
-
Oh its a 2.0litre mpi petrol
-
This sounds like my symptoms too ~ losing coolant, no visible leaks, no emulsion in oil ~ although my engine is a 300Tdi.
I've just replaced the water pump (which seized up and sheared the drive spindle) and am hoping that's the problem sorted. If it isn't then I've kinda come to the conclusion that the only reasonable explanation is a cracked cylinder head where the coolant is leaking directly into the exhaust manifold. Does that sound likely on an Mpi engine?
-
Yeah sounds exactely the same i spoke to a garage today and they have said that 1/ radiator has air block and has to much pressure or 2/ as you said a crack in cylinder head which not going to be cheap so far i have left cap of and let the pressure push trapped air out wil try this again next week if not then i suppose it gonna have to be done the expensive way  how much do u reckon that would cost

About £400 for a good V8 :D
Stcik some K-Seal in it for now

How much [-o< oh well least it would be 1 less thing to worry about k-seal is that temp and how long you reckon thatll last b4 i get it repaired
-
K-Seal is pretty perments, it stays in for good looking for leaks to fix. I've used it a couple of times on gaskets that are hard to get to and it's done the job well.
-
i think ill take that option lol thank you for that
-
Maybe not as big a muppet as you thought

Yes I always tend to think people only sell cars they have had enough of, for one reason or another :-k
-
to true yeah do i pour the stuff into

do i pour the stuff into
The K-Seal?
Phil recomends that you water it down a little then add it to the radiator cap rather than the header tnak IIRC, this stops it forming a bit clump in the header tank before it's had chance to circulate, but basically you just add it to tyour water and forget it's there.
If the K-Seal won't cure it then ask him about cargo seal, it costs a bit more but it's damn good, harder to use though as it reacts with anti freeze so there's lots of flushing required. Belt and braces is a dose of cargo seal floowed by new antifreeze with k-seal in it. Nice job for the weekend.

wow thx you should pin that for future thx
-
ok radiator cap is located on left side of radiator rite think it same as rrc if i remember correctly

That's the one, with the engine running you might see the water just inside it swirling round because of the small bore pipe that enters the rad at that point, the perfect place to add any additive as it gets well mixed ;)
