Title: my old cars

just been digging through an old draw and found some pics of some of my old cars - showing my age now, these were taken 85-89!   - they may drag up some memories from some of you guys!

my capri 2.8injection

my 3.0s capri
it had RS alloys (not laser wheels) on it when I got it but I changed them over to pepperpots

under bonnet view - note the aeroquip hoses !   ..and a Moss alarm, these were all the rage at the time.

then theres my old cortina 2.0ghia - I Lowered the suspension on it and put Granada 2.8i shockers on it. it handled like a gokart but had zero ground clearance.

Oh Happy days :dance: they were the days when you could fix your car at home.

I remember my Triumph Spitfire was running like a bag of nails, there was water in the oil etc so I figured the head gasket needed replacing. Well I had a date with this lass and knew the car was the deciding factor of where I was stopping the night if you get my drift! ;)

So zipped to my local motor factors for Oil & filter, Antifreese and a Head gasket set, back home...
Removed the Twin su's, manifold and then the head. Cleaned it all up and replaced the lot, Did my clearences. Oil and water and had her purring like new all in under 3 hours!

My mate had a capri 2.8 drove it for years, then it failed its MOT and sat on his drive for 8 years. He sold it on ebay for spares and repairs, the guy who purchased it turned up with trade plates and a big hammer, He filled it with fuel, belted the wheels with a hammer, then jump started it and drove the bloody thing away! :shock:

I had the engine outof my MkII Esocrt, having snapped an engine mount off the block.  Redrilled the bolts, tapped them out, all back in and running in 4 hours, on my own.

4 hours on a modern car to change the oil filter :evil:

Yes it was a bench seat and it had a column gearchange too.

People then go on about how they were in college, or got married..

I reply with I was being born.

Normally ends up in me being told to do one!

 I too have owned that model of Vauxhall. Not my first road car though, that was a 62 Zephyr, Ex dealer demo bought the day I passed my car test. The car was four months old when I bought it.
 First car I owned was a Morris 8 series E. Reg No. LPB 842. Sold to an enthusiast in Blackpool in 69. I believe he still has it, I used to drive it round the farm from being 11 years old, to passing my bike and tractor tests when I was 16.
 Wish I still owned it.

I remember my Dad saying every weekend he had the engine out of his Hilman Imp to repair it. Oh the days I had to help my dad on his Vittesse too. I remember pumping the break pedal to bleed them and pointing a light in the right direction when he changed the grearbox twice to a overdrive unit a mate lent him hence twice as mate wanted it back before he sold the car. Great to sit on the tyre and work on it!! :)

Oh yeah, and in 82 I was being born as well. Nearly to the day. 5 weeks or so time! Becoming old now, heading towards 30!

Crikey, I've still got most of mine :oops:

MkII Escort Estate, replaced with a MkII 4-door 1600, then my Cavalier, Blue (which is really Julie's) and the LSE.

The 4-door is rotten as a pear but the estate is sat in my gagrage waiting for some paintwork and reassembly.  I've had other projects but never driven any of them much, so they don't count.
