Title: My Disco progress so far
Post by: TDi.Si on March 22, 2008, 09:47:41: Picked this up a couple of weeks ago with a 1 inch lift and 265/75 16 Insa turbo's

Got it stuck almost straight away!

Swapped the alloys over for some modulas I had. The rear arches were catching so they got the cut along with the doors :lol:

Also the front tyres were catching the bumper with the lower offset wheels, so that came off and I made this with some friends

I found I have wet carpets after a trip to Marlborough so thourght i'd get on with welding up the sides of the floor and front inner wings.

Took me 2days of welding, although my welder has gone wrong :angry: The new floor pannel I used was a RR clasic one which I had in the garden. Had to cut it down about 3 inches, then rivited in. I did disturb the fuel return pipe though so I had to change the sender unit, luckily I had another tank though.

Post by: TDi.Si on April 16, 2008, 19:29:01: Yea it is a bit, but I knew this when I bought it. Needed doing before June for the MOT anyway :lol:

Getting the towbar off to drop the tank (forgot to cut a hole in the floor so I could get at the sender :oops: ) was a mission, had to cut 4 of the 6 bolts off! I'll be making a removable version when I make a rear bumper I think.

Post by: TDi.Si on April 19, 2008, 18:13:15: Had a search on here and thourght i'd look at why my rear door doesn't lock. Didn't even have to take anything apart, One screw was missing and the other was loose on the catch, replaced the screw and tightened it all up, works a treat now. :D

So set about modifying the bumper this weekend to fit it. Just cut a hole where the tow ball was, fitted a fairlead and a nice thick piece of sheet steel to the back as a winch tray.

Hid the winch behind the grill and fitted the cut out switch in the grill.

I'm also going to get a plasma rope when I can find one that works with an internal drum brake.

Post by: TDi.Si on August 10, 2008, 11:10:17: Cheers for the comments, the winch was stripped and resealed with silicone before it was fitted. I'm still getting a click from the solenoid occasionly so I may put a heavy duty solenoid pack in there.
Was out playing the other day when the truck started making a noise like dislocating springs (which it can't do as I have +1 springs and standard shocks!) when I took the truck out of difflock it wouldn't move. Took the shafts out and they were fine, then I noticed this leak:

Was a very small hole in the diff pan, and it had dents in the diff pan. Took out the diff and this is what I found!

So I swapped the whole rear axle for one on a mates scrap RR. :roll:

Post by: clbarclay on August 10, 2008, 11:43:04: I would just fit a fresh diff out of your mates RRC.

By the looks of it the diff pan is shot and fabrication isn't a problem for your so why not take the oppertunity to cut of the laminated cigarette paper origional and replace it with more substantial one. Mine are know made from the end caps for a pressure vessel and at 6mm thickness there is now no need for diff guards.

Post by: TDi.Si on August 12, 2008, 18:14:31: I would have welded it up and swapped the diff, but mine was 24 spline and the RR was 10 spline.So swapping the whole axle was the quickest and cheapest way of getting it back on the road!

Need to change the wheel bearing in the back axle though.
