Title: I am fuming
Post by: muddyjames on March 24, 2008, 15:38:22
Some (expletive) has scratched my car. Not just a small scratch either. It goes the whole width of my boot on my rover 620. It is very deep down to metal and now sharp to the touch as well.

I have high suspicions it is 2 kids over the road from me. They were playing football on Saturday and I heard thier ball hitting things like my house. I heard a noise and them running quick sharp back to thier house looking very sus. I was washing up my lunch when they ran off. I went out side to have a look about but saw nothing. Well, I wasn't expecting them to have damaged my car. I thought thier ball may have broken a window or something similar. Speeking to my neighbour he heard a noise and went to his window and saw them running off looking sus too. I have no way of proving it but I think it was them.

If they had done it to the disco I wouldn't have been to cross as it has scratches already. Another wouldnthave been too bad, but to my rover I take alot of pride over and polish etc I am livvid.

Anyone know how to stop the rust setting in until I can wait until nicer weather to sort it out? Silicone in the groove or anything? I am rather up set.

Cant claim on insurance as car is only worth about £250 and I have £100 excess so they will prob write the car off.

I've had some success with those paint pens for emergency repairs - should work in this scenario.

I did buy one of those sets before Rover went belly up but the colour match isn't brilliant. for an area not highly visible they are alright.! How do I smooth the very rough edge though the key or stone has created?

my pajero got done before i started off roading, 3 times the windows, windscreen door panels, roof were all done, i used the colour magic chip stick and polish, it was very effective, it does not have to be an extact match colour wise it will blend in.

Sorry to hear about this, i can understand how [!Expletive Deleted!] off you are.

I have since moved house, loverly neighbourhood

This is a photo of it. Note it goes all the way to where the reflection of the tree is at the top of the photo.

things like this dont normally happen around here. The family I think is in question and if rumours are right owe 4months rent and should have moved out a month ago and process is under way to get a court order to evict them. This is a lovely close with very little trouble usualy. also another neighbour has seen another car with a scratch down the side and thinks it is new. He will talk to the cars owner soon.

thats is bad,  gets me really mad when i see things like that. guess the parents arent much better than the kids ?.
late night with a pole round there care should be even things out a little.  as for the scratch  aint no body work expert but ive found a really really fine grade of wet and dry, loads of soap (neat) on the wet and dry will take the edges off, then like you say one of them pens, stop it rusting but youll always see it. out of interest i wonder how much them mr scratch repair blokes could do it for. footballs are a menace why they cant play in the park and not on the roads is beyond me . guesss im old fashioned. hope you get it sorted. alan....

DON'T USE SILICON. whatever you do or put on it ...don't use that stuff as it will be a night mare to apply paint afterwards ...brush paint some red oxide over it ..won't look pretty but will protect it for now  ;)

I had forgotten about them. I may give them a call. anyone remember a company name from the adverts?

You wont believe how close the park is. Well, an open area of grass suitable for footballs. It is behind my house! Yes, all they have to do is walk past 3 houses to the alley way to theback of my house. Extremely lazy.

Use Brasso/Duraglit to take the "edge" off it. Trust me :)

Brasso eh. cool. Will have to buy some of that. will it take the paint off around it though?

Have thought about that too. My local scrappy is a posh one with prices to match unfortunately. :-(

I have some copper slip in a spray can. would that work?

As for a repair except the idea above. I was thinking of putting masking tape as close as poss (nearly touching so about 2mm apart from tape to tape) to both sides of the scratch and spraying it up as I do have a half can of red paint. I cant get the laminate can to work though. Will I need to fill the groove with anything?

Pait the whole car matt black with a brush.

If it was the disco I would just buy a tin of green paint from Paddocks and paint the disco. I did this to my old series and it looked the dogs bits. I intened to do the same when the disco becomes mega scratched from laning.

they have a black Ka and boy friend of mum has a white golf that parks opposite my house where the cars are parked recently. at the moment it isnt an issue as the space that would be used for a car and hard to get out a caravan is there. if it is there on thursday when the caravan tries to come out he may find it has been pushed into the middle of the close by a green disco  Only joking people. I dont want a clean mark on my bumper!

Oh, and they were firing little yellow pellets the other day apparently as my neighbour found a load on her front door step, so some must have hit cars.

We get rid of 1 bad neighbour then gain another in another house. grrr. one day the loonatics wont move in!

Brasso will not take off your paint - I use it to take out the deeper scratches on Bagheera (and previously on Owl)

Nail varnish if you just want to seal it, or get some paint mathced in Halfords and get it put into the paint pen with the nib, such a narrow area won't need priming.

You might want to look for a matching panel at a breaker's yard, it'll be cheaper than a reparay, and if you have got kids ****ing about ooutside your hoause, get a CCTV camera on the driveway (worth having with the 'van at home too) and make sure they can see it.

i am sorry its sounds like a nightmare that really did my head in, my Pajero got done three times, firstly the drivers door and window, proper etched in the glass

then the second time after that was repaired the whole drivers side was completely scrawled on glass everything, insurance company were good.

thirdly redid again same panels getting rather [!Expletive Deleted!] off by now, had to pay £400 to have our council garage adapted to take the pajero, and seek permission

we have since moved after paying out for two council garages of £80 per month, and good riddance to the scum.

The police whilst sympathetic , were pretty helpless, which made me more angry and frustrated. CCTV did not help as the CPS claimed it wasn't clear enough or had a time and date stamp on it. And in our case it was on the public highway and not on private land.

I did go mental one night with a snooker que and went round to the offenders house and put his windows out, something i am not not proud of, but i didnt know what else to do, totally driven to it no question...........

Like i said tis  some time ago, but not forgotten

Ye4s there is an issue with CCTV but as James has his car on his drive like I do then you are allowed to video provided you have some warning that it's being recorded.  If you want it to stand up in courst then yes, stupidly, it has to have a date stam on it, like the day it happened makes it not an offence :-. how's that work.

But if it's kids then knowing for sure it's themis haldf the battle, you can then approach their parents and if that does now good the coucil, playing ball games in the street is illegal after all.

James,

Brasso and Duraglit come in a tin and it's a "cloth", sort of. You'll see when you buy a tin :) (about 89p from Tesco ISTR)

Yep fair play, but you have to identify the little darlings on CCTV with there hoodies up, i had one clip of a little git scratching my pajero so hard it the cameras picked it up and the police said because it happened out of camera view, ( you saw him creep behind the car)  and the sickening noise of metal being scratched.

I hope you sort this out mate as its a right pain, as quickly as possible. good luck!
