Title: Lift Advice
Post by: cotefarmboy on March 26, 2008, 17:34:23
I am planning to add a small lift to my 200 tdi 90, maybe just 1" or 1.5" as I am running 265/75/16's so don't need to go mad.

Will I get away with just springs and shocks or do I need extended brake lines, dislocation cones etc etc?

Not had experience lifting a Defender hence the question. From memory i got away with not extending the brake lines on a Disco with a 2" lift but it was a close thing.

Will be getting some fairly serious off-road use although not competitions.

Location cones are one of thsoe things you won't know 'till you get there.  Brake lines I'd say check carefully.

Castor correction, again suck it and see really but expcet the top UJ on the front prop to go, they don't seem to lick going out of their "comfort zone" once they are run-in.

Brake lines, bump stops and dislocation depend on the length dampers and their mounts being used. If you stick to standard length items then none of theses should be a problem, unless you fit radically different springs that are either much shorter than standard or too long and coil bind.

Take note, not all spring and damper lift kits come with longer dampers.

If its just a small lift then personally I would question whether its worth fitting longer dampers. There is no one answer to suspension modifications, so make up your mind as to just what you want.

Main reason for the lift was to add HD springs at the front to compensate for the slight sag since adding the winch. It has dropped around 2 cm hence the lift kit going on.

Springs and shocks look old too so worth doing I reckon.

"Springs and shocks look old too so worth doing I reckon." from that statement,  personally,  for the small amount of money involved i,d do the brake lines too!
