My reversing lights work when they want because the housing they screw into is loose. I had the Bias plate changed before Christmas so it is going back to be re-checked. Worth a checking, grab hold of the switch the housing shouldnt move.

i know this is slightly off topic, but last week i lost the spring loaded gear change when you push it across into reverse, so now it just goes where it wants and makes findind first gear a nightmear at junctions, is this the bias plate??

Don't know if it matters to you? but the reverse lights are NOT part of the MOT test!! you do not HAVE to have them!
-
crazymac, I think you'll find that if lights are fitted they should work.

Bias plate hold the gearlver in 3rd/4th plane, the reverse plunger is an extra spring in a housing bolted to the LHS of the gearshift extendion, below the bias plate. Your might have fallen off.

Nope!! I know this is a really strange one, but the reverse lights do not have to work for the MOT!
