Hi Guys
Developed a problem today - rev counter giving spurious and sometimes no readings, and the alternator light on the dash not working. I'm thinking the two are related!?
I've already replaced the coil pack on the alternator once, could it have gone again!?
At the time we were up to the axles in mud, so give it a quick look over and all the alternator cables are still connected, spray of WD and a shake didn't seem to help. Quick google suggests that the "W" terminal of the alternator is what powers the rev counter, but will replacing the coil pack fix this?
Any ideas?
Cheers, :undecided:

Yes the W connector runs the rev counter, so that will probably just be a bad connection!
The alternater light should not be on!! it comes on when its NOT working!

Ta very much. Thought as much. I'll check the connections tomorrow.

It SHOULD come on when you first turn the ignition on as a self test, but it's not doing that at the moment.

Yes, it should on 1st starting up. I'd say its down to connections for both problems!

the best way i have found is the dremel with a wire wheel, a bit awkward with female connections, but gives a great finish... sprwy with WD40 to finish. if this doesnr work, i would suggest remove and clean the alternator, as it could be full of whatever you were splashing through when it went funny!
