Title: water tight??
Post by: R2D2 on March 31, 2008, 15:38:10
hi all

Off playing on Sunday and taking RRc 3.5 lpg without snorkel and was wondering what is the best way to ensure it keeps going when wet!!

Which spray is best effective? Silicone , wd40, Spray grease, ignition protector, condoms  latex gloves over dizzy etc?

Whatdya think?  8-[

well i took mine out for the first time yesterday and i have been wary of water.

but i have got all new ignition part under the bonnet and everything has been sprayed with WD40.

We went through a fair bit of water and splashing up over the roof and it never missed a beat.

just make sure everything is in good order to start with and spray the inside of your dizzy, thn each connector on the dizzy and also spray the HT lead connectors at the plug end.

You shouldn't have a problem

I'm with V8Rangie, make sure the igniotion components are in good order is lesson 1!

Lesson 2 is spray on chain wax for the ends of the dizzy leads

Lesson 3 is a 2 litres pop bottle cut in half, top goes over the coil with the leads coming through the neck taped off using black & nasty (gaffer tape). Bottom half with some trimming taped on top of dizzy. Both of these help protect these components from spray and are less prone to long term deterioration than the latex glove/tuff toys approach.

Lesson 4 remember to take your dipping stick.

Lesson 5 remember to use your dipping stick!

Good luck

I took my V8 110 through almost bonnet deep water several times and it was fine, all I used was a very good coat of silicone grease spray stuff, I forget the actual name of it.

Sprayed it on everything, both ends of the leads, the dizzy and the coil.

I did have a snorkel fitted though, without that I would not have been as adventurous/stupid (it was water that killed the 110, but thats a different story) I also had a leccy fan which i could switch off when going through deep water.

Both ends... no good protecting dizzy end if water gets to plug end and causes a short is there?

**Re-reads it...**

Sorry... that sounds terrible... was supposed to explain rather than talk down... apologies!
