hi folks i have a 1991 rangie with a 200tdi fitted drove home from work tonight no rev counter got home turned the ignition off and the battery light came on turn the ignition back on and the light goes out.
cleaned all the earths under bonnet no change took the battery wire off the back of the alternator the light went out did some tests alternator is charging at 13.3 volts but gets so hot i cannot touch it after 2 mins of it on tickover has anybody had anything like this happen on their motors and is the alternator at fault thanks carl

Yep the alt's knackered i bet you can stick your spanner to it they magnitise disconnect your battery or it will kill your battery quite quick!!

Sounds like the rectifier pack has gone to me.
