Title: front wheel bearing problems ?
Post by: land-def-90 on April 13, 2008, 16:13:07
hi just been out in my defender 200tdi (1991) had felt a bit of vibration along with a rumbly noise coming from the front for a while now , but it all came to a head today, noise got worse and worse creaking and grinding, the hub in the middle of the wheel on the n/s front axle was red hot managed to limp 6 mile home at walking pace. would i be right in assuming it is the wheel bearing  :-k and if so how dificult is it to replace, what parts will i need and will i have caused more damage driving the old girl home  [-o< as always your advice is much appreciated. regards Iain

A set of bearings, stub axle possibly, oil seals, lock nut and washers, flange gasket, tub of grease, straight forward job as long as bolts and stuff remove easily, you want to check the otherside as well, always best to get another set of bearings etc for stock.
