Title: Tires
Post by: beggers on April 19, 2008, 20:15:01
Hi, does anyone know what the biggest diameter tire is that will go on the back of a standard diso spare holder before it fouls the bumper. I'm thinkin of puttin a set of 235/85/16's on but would like to have a spare the same size but think it hight catch.

Thanks

I think it's about 32", you can get a 33" on there but you need to raise the mounting slightly.
If all else fails then there's always the oversize wheel mounts (http://www.devon4x4.com/component/option,com_shop/Itemid,67/sitelang,en/mode,browse/cat,62/showcaticons,no) from Devon 4x4.  ;)

I know a couple of people with 235/85 BFG M/T on that fit the spare wheel carrier, of course some remoulds are a lot bigger than they pretend to be :-.

This is quite strange, I have new BFG Mud's 235 x 85 x 16 and the spare fits on the wheel carrier without any mods, there is only about 5 mm clearance to the bumber but the tyre does not foul on anything.

Didn't LR fit 750 tyres onto Camel trophy Discos? perhaps they had it in mind that tyres that size should fit :-k

My 235/85/16'S just touched the bumper (you could hear a squeek as it slid across the bumper)

so I made a plate with three m10 bolts welded on the back and three bolts on the front the same size and layout as the studs on the car then I cut the origional studs off the wheel carrier and drilled it to take the new plate but about an inch and a half higher up I am improving this at the moment by making one of the front bolts longer with a hole through it to take a pad lock..

Searching the best of the net says 7.00r16 michelin XZL rather than 7.50r16.

i got 255/85/16 on my back door, all you have to do is loosen the bumper bolts then the bumper will drop a little and do them up again.

Ditto. My old 235/85/16 BFG Muds fitted with no problems.
