Title: range rover lost drive

last night i was on my way home and i lost all drive there was a bang and now it just sounds like something scrapping
is it transfer box or auto box

 i have been driving round with one prop on because the viscous locked on me could this be why it went
or how do i check

any ideas i will be very gratefull cheers kev

could be a blown diff, try jacking up the axle that's still got the prop attached and see if it's working or not.

As Chris says, the RRC diffs can let go in 2wd, that's why the RRC was made 4x4 (anbd the phase 1 V8)

Also it could be the visocus letting go, when they seize it's because the thermo viscous fluid has crystalised, forming little rocks inside the sealed unit, these could now have broken up.

Sounds like the chain within the BW transfer box is gone.

Not too unusual.

Get an exchange box from Ashcrofts...

I've plenty of spare transfer boxs if you need one, I've a low mileage LT230 and some B-W boxes.

i,m going to change the transfer box to a manual difflock over weekend so will let you guys know many thx for your know how cheers kev

replaced the transfer box the weekend and now runs sweet i think it might be the chain in the old box
