Hi I would like to record my driving and people in front of me somtimes so been looking at setting up maybe a CCTV camera and then a recorder to view it later, but in me browsing I found this
http://www.oregonscientific.co.uk/cat_ActionCam.htm (http://www.oregonscientific.co.uk/cat_ActionCam.htm)
Has anyone else used one of these in a 4x4 for the price they look pretty good,
I have read some reviews about the sound not being too good but i am not really bothered about that. Just want to see if anyone on here is using one.

I've been looking at the same thing, I wonder how good they are?

I am pretty sure these were tested on "the gadget show" a few weeks ago :-k
Problem is i cant remember what they said about them
Might have a shifty at there web site and see if they have a write up on them ??

Mate of mine uses one when he goes out on his motorbike. He has it stuck to his helmet (Not that one you mucky lot  ) when cuts down the vibration from the bike. He has tried it fixed to the bike but the vibration means that you don't get a good picture.

There is a neat trick you can do to mount a camera on a pre-airbag 300TDI Disco. If you get the right size of tripod and a bungee cord you can wedge the tripod in the cubby on the passenger side of the dash and secure it to the grab handle with the bungee. You get good footage and it doesn't vibrate even at road speeds.

Our local bus company have the 6 minute cam fitted behind the drivers head it records 24 hours a day on a loop and if anything happens the driver presses a button and it saves the last six minutes on a built in chip that he can keep as evidence.

I made a GoggleCam (put a small camera in my goggles) and used it on my quad. You can see a couple of vids here:

I intend to mount it on the rear view mirror of Clyde 2.0 at some point.

When I was training to become an ADI my instructor used a camera which stuck to the windscreen and recorded to a standard VHS recorder powered from an inverter. Both the video and audio quality was excellent ~ you could hear me cursing when I missed something he did
I use a small camcorder when recording demonstration drives for my IAM Associates. This is mounted on the dash with a short bungee (actually a "trouser blouser") which hooks into two small holes I drilled into the top of the dash under the pen tray. When I want to use it I just remove the rubber insert from the tray and secure the camcorder. With a high capacity battery and medium quality video I can get more than an hour of recording on a tape and the remote control signal can be bounced off the inside of the windscreen to control the camcorder (rec/pause/stop/etc).

Those oregon scrientific cameras are poor...
The video is not steady, and the audio from it is horrid.
I ended up taping a normal digital camera on video mode to the back side of the sun visor.
Looked better than anything i did on the action cam.

Ps - Scuse the footage of me hooning though a flood! - You could see out of the drivers side... Honest!

You could always buy a camcorder and one of these...

heres a company that sells most things for archos models http://www.newmp3technology.com/ http://www.newmp3technology.com/500cam.htm this is what I have there are other models aswell now they have wifi etc but im happy witht the one ive got the company is in the states but with the state of the dollar it works out quite cheap when I got mine I got it in the uk dixons I think it was, and it came with everything you need, charger a docking station that allows you to record from your tv as a vid recorder usb cables etc I have ive also made a 5metre long extension cable so I can position it anywhere around my vehicle .email the company in america and see what it comes with( I recomend a car charger for it as when you recording it uses more power than jest using it normally so you can use it all the time and a holder the sucker type for gpss work aswell )there are also various size of memory for them and when they reply if you decide to go with it then fill out the order form with all the details and when it comes to the credit card part cancell the order and they will email you back with a 10% discount on all products or at least they did with me and one of my mates hope this is of some help if youve any questions just ask email etc cheers, don

You could always get one of these new covert Police head cameras. No one would know you are wearing it.
