Title: Monkey noise!!!
Post by: DefenderBLACK on April 29, 2008, 17:12:17
Sometimes when setting of in 1st gear - but also happens sometimes when accelerating after changing into 2nd and third gear - i get a strange monkey sound - ie uuuh uuuh (sorry cant replicate in text!) -

What is causing this? Its loud and can be heard easily outside as well as in the 90.

My defender 90 is a 2002 model Td5.

Thanks

Paul

Could be your gearbox mounts that are warn and when you set off etc. the input shaft moves about and causes the spigot bearing to make a wierd noise.

Sort of 'grunt grunt grunt' getting quicker as you pull away?  Was worn UJ on mine - I've got the bits, just can't get the nuts undone at the moment, so soaking in WD40.........  Cheers, A

i think its an engine or gearbox mount as well or maby exhaust mount has broken off. i had a smiler noise from the backend and it drove me bananas and all it was was a exhaust mount bracket. i only had the noise in very low revs.

I had somthing similar on the disco when releasing the clutch . I had a uuuuurrrrrr huh (hard in'it) noise...

Went away after putting in a new clutch kit turned out to be a worn thrust bearing de-celerating when the peddle was released the old one was loose and a little rusty/crudded up.
