Title: too bigger tyre for my wheel carrier
Post by: mentalmoshio sophs V8i on May 04, 2008, 21:39:32: ive just found my insa special trak 265 wont fit on the wheel carrier :doh: i was wondering would it be worth making raised nut plate to solve the problem

how ever i do have a wizard jack mount on there and was wondering un doing the nut on it every time the mud tyres go on roughly every 6 weeks . would wear the threads out.

i also plan to weld the jack holder to the carrier. ( the twin nut idea was not on there enough for my liking plus i dont want another claim on the insurance :doh: )

would it be better to use a 90/110 wheel carrier on the roofrack or disco one .

i did think about a d44 one but the price puts me off

Post by: Paul on May 04, 2008, 21:52:08: If it's just to give you more room from the bottom of the tyre to the bumper... you can remove the carrier, move it up and re-drill it ;)

Post by: Disco Matt on May 04, 2008, 22:22:09: My Wizardbilt jack carrier only goes on when I'm out laning, the rest of the time the back part is left on with the wheel cover over the top and the front part is in the boot. It doesn't seem to be damaging the threads so far.

Move up to required height - reweld, then plate bottom gap at front and top gap at rear for strength.
I did this to get my Grizzly on the back, worked a treat.
I've got some pictures somewhere if you want them.
What are the Special Traks like on the road ?

as for me there quite noisy . roughly radio at 10 with loud function off to not hear them at all. they do judder under braking abit. speed wise 60 ish and over takes some holding.

much improvement over grizzlys. steering lock is a bit of a problem use lose roughly 1/2 a turn on the lock.

mine runs with anti roll bar still on

Post by: meader on May 05, 2008, 00:12:54: are you sure because imrunning 265/75/16 grizzlys and my spare is an insa turbo on the back door if it does not fit your door then something is very wrong and if you still have problems you may have to lower the the rear bumper very slightly not that i had to

Post by: thermidorthelobster on May 05, 2008, 00:38:31: Moved mine up one hole, ground out the top of the bracket so it didn't clash, and drilled new holes at the bottom. Worked a treat. IIRC you can flip them upside down and redrill the centre hole, but can't remember why I didn't do that.

thats how i did mine but i had to buy a new one first which was Â£50 as my old one was rotten i then found d4x4 do one allready lifted for the same money :-o

could see it not touching the back of the door but how does it lift it up ?

I was told I would have to alter my carrier even with the spacers but its OK, I have had the bumper undone so its bolts are at the bottom of the bolt hole.

Post by: insa-disco on May 14, 2008, 11:20:51: my mate has a 35 inch mud terrain tyre on the back of his disco, i dont know if hes altered the brackets or not, all i know is that he has to let the tyre down to fit it on the door but he has an on board compressor so its not a problem for him
