You can just vote and don't have to make a comment, i am just interested in how as a cross section of society we would influence the British Political system.

wheres the BNP.....................................................
What you talking about the "British Numpty Party"
Had one of these twits at my door once going on about how much better off my wife and I would be if immigration was totally halted and we "Sent them packing"
"Oh you sending my wife back to Czech? I asked"
He said she didn't look Eastern European..... I asked "How can you tell what an immigrant looks like?" At this point he struggled
Oh I said, I can... "they are the ones doing the work in the fields and factories that the lazy Brits can not be bothered to do!"
He was walking away muttering at this point!

Sorry its not a pop at you...
I deal with the same bone idle scrotes all day, ones that wouldn't work fpr a living if their lives depended on it, yet the Polish who work the fields where I work are just like the brits running to Austraila or New Zealand, they want a better life and are prepared to work hard for it.
Plus my wife works hard, she runs her own business, is on the Pre school committee and runs a non profit mothers and toddlers group.
-
i voted Conservative i just put BNP on as a comment as it always interest's me to see how people react too them ;)
-
Know what you mean about bone idle scrotes ! Have a family living next door to me, have the money to smoke, drink and watch sky tv but can`t be bothered to work.

On a serious note, the political apathy in this country scares me. When the moderate majority of people don't bother to vote it gives extremists an easy route to power as they have no problem mobilising their supporters.

i can understand why people dont bother waisting an hour of their day voting though. how do i say that? well why bother voting if the party you vote for have told you what they want to do for you as a nation. they then get in on your vote. they then lie, cheat and steal their way through office until they are voted out again. so that the next lying cheating party can get in to power.
so why bother ???
they are all the same at the end of the day ..........no backbone the lot of them .....me, who do i vote for.....none of them and thats my freedom of choice ;)
-
I have to agree with you ! MP`S only lie when they open their mouths [-X

One of the key issues is I think separating "apathy" from other thoughts. As Denviks pointed out there is certainly a feeling that voting makes little difference in the grand scheme of things and it is quite possible to be vehemently opposed to all the mainstream (and even lesser) political parties. This isn't really apathy so much as despondency or despair.
Now, personally I side with the opinion that if you don't vote you don't really have the right to moan, but I can certainly take sympathy with those people who view the affair as "damned if you do, damned if you don't", locally certainly none of the three parties want to address anything that I take issue with so it can be a case of beggers choice.
Perhaps the real way to judge people's opinions is to introduce the "none of the above" box [1] and see how many people would vote, if only they could find one of the parties to truly represent their views. I would love to think that voting numbers would go up significantly and show the powers that be [2] that we don't want career politicians, we don't want spin, we want the blooming country running quietly, efficiently and without it constantly being someone elses' fault when things go wrong.
I do however think that this is probably not the case and I'm on my own with the terminally ill informed continuing their inclination towards genetic voting and "whatever the tabloids say innit" :-o
Still... I think I'll have breakfast [3]
[1] Thank you Brewster, although it might be better labelled as the "I wouldn't trust this bunch of muppets to put on a hat" box.
[2] Whitehall, Government, the major parties, although what they mostly "be" is annoying.
[3] Haha! take that thought police!
-
why dont we copy the yanks and have a 'none of the above' box at the ballot?

In many ways I agree with your sentiments but if someone does not vote then, as far as I am concerned, they give up their right to moan about the political system and the numpties that run it :-.
-
I would normally vote but on this occasion I didn't get the time in from work feed and out again.
-
im going to vote. it will be my first time walking into that booth....

i dont agree with that. sorry bud. the politcal system has been the same for donkeys years and will remain the same. no point in moaning about the system itself...
if i had someone that was worth voting for then sure i would vote. but when i have nothing but lying cheating scum to choose from........well i think i wont choose from them at all. it doesnt stop me having the right to moan about the scum at all......in fact i have just as much right as you or anyone else.... ;)
-
I definitely feel a "None of the Above" would be a good idea. If that option gathers more votes than any one candidate, the election has to be re-run. Parties would have an extra month to come up with some innovative policies that might actually work, and maybe change the candidate if they have the personality of a dead tree.

Fair enough but I think we shall have to agree to disagree on this particular issue ;)
Maybe we can both moan about the "....lying cheating scum...." together :D

I am not legally allowed to vote in the general elections, yet I pay my taxes, NI, etc, in full. Does that mean that I am not allowed to have a good ole moan about the thieving lying scum????

Why? Are you a foreign national? :-k

wheres the BNP.....................................................
-
For what its worth, my thoughts on the matter are as follows:
1) Labour: a bunch of liars who have screwed this country.
2) Conservatives: a richer bunch of liars who had their chance of screwing the country before labour got in to do it again.
3) Lib Dems: a bunch of people who would like to screw the country but can't make their minds up how or when, so have taken to practicing on each other.
4) Greens: an interesting idea, but seen as a bunch of beardy weirdies.
5) BNP: a bunch of Nazis by another name.
What is needed is a ' Common Sense' party, that would bring an end to 'Political Correctness' and a return to simple logic.
Some ideas.
1) Law and Order: The Police know what they are doing. Let them get on with.
2) Armed Forces: They know what they are doing. Let them get on with it.
3) One department to run the rail network that makes it affordable and practical for all to use.
4) A bus network that runs when it is needed, not when it is most profitable.
5) Supermarket companies to have yearly profits capped. Any excess to go towards getting this country's farming industry back on its feet and stop reliance on other parts of the world. Buy local and save costs!
6) Oil companies to have their profits capped, any excess to be used to fund sustainable energy.
7) Anti Social Behavior: when caught, offenders to be made to repair damage caused or make their community better by litter picking.
8) The abolition of the Human Rights Act in the UK. We existed very well before it, with sufficent laws to cover eventualities.
9) Abusers of the Welfare System. Go out, get a job, or you will lose all your benefits.
10) Immigration: Open the borders to everyone.......providing they are prepared to contribute to the benefit of the society and Country. If not, byeeee!
I could go on, but I would be labelled a neo Nazi communist socialist conservative.
