Couldn't get a bolt off   so decided that 10 seconds with the angle grinder would sort it :D . Goggles on and started up.
Grinder slipped and took chunk out of finger
Moral :?: ALWAYS PUT YOUR GLOVES ON :| :|. Because taking a large chunk of finger out hurts a lot   (Fortunately mother is with St Johns and has and is trained to use all the kit).

Thanks. It didn't actually hurt for about 10 mins. Now it hurts like bu***rg. Still haven't got bolt off.

Could have been worse Guy. You could have damaged the motor.
Safety first DIY second as they say,

Um, I've just come inside to get an extension lead (couldn't keep away from MC!) 'cos I'm about to remove a stubborn nut using Land Rover special tool number 2 (No.1 being the BFH).
Scared now... :?
-
You need a nut splitter, it's an essential part of the Land Rover toolkit.
-
.one word begins in T end it T gota a and w in ther somewher but i know wat that feels like
-
Done that once or twice and come away relatively unscathed. No excuse though, Safety First.
On the subject of nut splitters, they never work for me, well rarely anyhow, plus there is a certain satisfaction in removing that b***y nut in the most destructive way possible.
"NOT SO HARD TO TAKE OFF NOW, ARE YOU?"
PS
Special tool No.1, like it  Usually call mine 'pit spanner', 'Edinborough socket set' or 'fine adjustment', depending on size.

Guy
I'm trying to work out what expletive bu***rg is!! (or is it Latvian??)
Sorry, I'll go and apply my attention to my poorly (AGAIN  ) alternator
-
A nut splitter was no use to me this time as it was the nut on the metal pipe side of the rear flexi hose, one of those "half height" ones.
I had a job where we called No.1 tool a "calibration tool", but I client got wind of this and thought it wasn't very professional and complained to management. Understandable to a certain extent because we worked with delicate process control and monitoring equipment. :D
-
i buffed my knuckle down to the tendon before with a grinder, its amazing just how well insulating tape stops the blood flow

I actually prefer my oxy bottles - I can do or undo virtually anything with them!!! and in the tightest of places too!!!

And then you can hammer all the little bits into the floor, and smash them and kill them and hurt them and.......
Sorry, the anger management isn't working.

 Naked flame near a landy :?: i thought they all leak fuel :!:

I sympathise Guy
I did something similar today whilst cutting floor tiles with a stanley knife - slipped and nearly sliced the top of my finger off! loads of the red stuff kept the kids laffing for while whilst I went whiter and whiter!

Wouldn't have worked. It was the bolt causing the problem. No space to drift out as shock absorber bracket gets in the way. Hence the need to cut the radius arm off.

Got that fun to come soon, tret myself to an air powered saw. Trouble is how quickly it empties the res on my compressor!

I might get one as well. Wonder if it is man enough though. Need to cut right though the radius arm between the bracket.

Could have been worse - you might have been doing it in the summer with shorts on
I usually consider how big a job is by the quantity and severity of the cuts and bruises

Same here. Apart from missing a bit of my finger (it's more a groove then a cut) I have 3 other open wounds

Simple job to do today, drop and refil gearbox oil on the disco, still managed to skin two finger when cracking off the drain plug should know better than putting hand in between spanner and gearbox :x ,
glad i did though was well past its sell by date :)

And this is when we normally say never again.
Then do almost the same thing next time.

not as good as me taking the engine mountings & chains of the trialer, got my finger stuck between the mount & the spanner & had to put a big leaver in & wedge the mounting across to get it out
-
What can I say! guilty of all the same, skin knuckles quite regular, still have scar from sticking blunt stanley knife into arm.and while grinding the head off a bolt on a s3 put my finger into the cutting disc cut through top of finger right in to the top fingernail but didnt bleed atall as it quarterised itself. but it hurt all the same  must be a landy owner thing

I am a big fan of angle grinder mounted cup wire brush thingies.. Cleaning up the space frame on a kit car I felt something hit my chin (I had googles on etc). Assuming it was a bit of rust I went to brush whatever it was away and found my hand covered in blood, and something sticking out of my chin that wasn't 3 day stubble.
1/2 an inch burried into my chin was a piece of the wire from the cup brush. If it had gone into an eye it would have been very serious. It's quite funny now as nothing happened but it could have been very very very very bad.
Stay safe and use precautions!

 Yep done that my self once at DPGs garrage, took a chunk out of my thumb, the good thing was that it happened so quick it burnt the wound so it didnt bleed, bloomin deep though. Gloves well recomended next time.

Those wire brushes are lethal.
I'm still finding bits of wire everywhere.

Yup, spent most of the afternoon picking those bits of wire out of my overalls after feeling a prickling sensation in my (ahem) nether regions!

well you could have a simpertheic mrs like mine she is a nurse so if it aint hangin off she dont give out simperthy (cant spell that word) then she would run a mile cuse she dont like blood good think she works on a skin ward lol
-
Today I managed to fit a new steering idler arm, steering damper, rear shock absorber and a panhard rod drop down bracket to the Surf without drawing a single drop of blood.
Later on- when I was slicing up chillies for the curry I did the stupidest thing and put a chilli laden finger into my eye! It's still stinging now six hours later- but at least my body is still intact.

My mate Jim managed something worse than that. He was welding a vehicle when a bit of weld bead dropped onto his crotch, and promptly burned through the overalls he was wearing.
This is why you should wear leather aprons, folks!

or at least leather jockstraps

Thankfully I haven't done it myself, but I've seen what a 9" angle-grinder to a person shins
Chainsaws also leave nasty marks as well. Don't go near one with out the proper 'multi nylon layer' clothing

    CHRIST. What kind of a club have I joined? I`m not sure which is scarier, the fact that your all really accident prone, the fact you all drive massive four wheel drives or the fact that I`m just as bad as everyone else here

Luckily no, otherwise the 2 years driving a 101 ambulance would have been rather difficult, and I must admit it was good fun
-
Its amazing how daft we all are once put a screwdriver across my eye would not take my hand away for 10 mins, plucked up courage infront of mirror, thankfully it had bounced across cheek bone splitting skin round base of eye, all i was trying to do was take saddle of my mountain bike.

It's not what they leave as much as what they take away . They rip 1/4 inch wide chunks of meat . 1 revolution of the chain and it's cut all the way through .
This type of wound doesn't bleed that much , luckily.

For those of us whos fingers still number 10, I quite like the air saw, but it's a bit poor if your compressor isn't the size of your car, then it's a beast. What I was planning was to cut between the radius arms and the bracket, taking out the end of the sleeve and the bolt, which is seized in (only one of them, I checked today). On inspection I see that this gap is currently full of rubber, now you can cut this with the saw, but compressed air is a precious comodity so I may resort to setting fire to the bush in order to remove enough of it to get in with the saw.
It's the front radius arm, so can you imagine trying to cut through that?
Good new is if I cut one side I may remove enough of the bolt for it to come out when I've ground the head of the other end. Fortunatley it's so cold outside I'm wearing 2 boiler suites

Well, oddly, for someone who used to spend her time dissecting people, I must confess to not being very keen at seeing live peeps bleeding, although I'm also a first-aider and if I'm required to 'minister' to peeps I can get on with the job and just feel a bit wibbly afterwards!!

Well, oddly, for someone who used to spend her time dissecting people,
It's incredible how everything fits together inside the abdomen isn't it??
I've seen a few PM's (admittedly not from the first cut, but most of the procedure)
I think it's put some people off smoking (or even BBQ's)

Reciprocating saw, can't picture that, tell me more.
As for fitting it in I think if I burn enough rubber away then I might be able to. I'm going to start with special tool#1 first though

Learned a new name for it today too, the old pit spanner. Neighbour called it an intermittant gravity press
Perfect for pressing in bushes then.
