Title: more seats in a rangy?
Post by: didirangerover on May 12, 2008, 15:46:28
will the side facing seats for the bootspace of a disco modify to go into a rangerover?
Due to a change in relationship status I now have a problem of needing to transport 2 adults and 4 kids on days out so I need the extra seats.

I doubt the fixings will be there for them to bolt in and evan if you mange to fit them there is still a double wammy of a) legal implications to check out and b) no head room to deal with. I have sat in the boot of a RRC once using a morris 1000 passager seat which is rather reclined and low compared to the upright disco rear seats, but there was no way you could get more than one child in like that.

If its just for small people (kids) then it may be possible to utilise the rear facing seats, not sure of their origin but I remeber a cosions volvo having them when I was much smaller than I am know.

I don't know where or when but I do recall seeing a Range Rover with a small rear facing bench seat.  It was vary close/flat to the boot floor so could give enough headroom for small children.  Taking 'clbarclay's' point on legallity you may wish to search out and check the issue of children in rear seats as IIRC there was something about minimum age and or height restrictions of children using side facing seats that came out when the law on child booster seats came into force, i.e. they could not use the side facing seats and the issues that relate to 90's with such seats.  You may get some helpful information from your local vehicle inspectorate on suitability and seatbelt anchore points etc.
Good luck
Oh, just a thought....if the children are too small to use boot or side facing seats then you could always put the other-half in the boot

Overfinch did an RR rear seat kit for the classic, as do others. It is like the volvo rear facing bench. Have a google :)

Ive got a rear seat fitted to the back off my rangy sits low in the back facing the rear , must admit you would not get adults in ok for kids mine love it . If you want pics will take some . If you got a P45 they take the tyre out of the boot and your feet go in there

will only be for a small 8 year old so headroom not a problem as by the time he gets too tall to fit my oldest boy won't want to hang out with mum anymore!
will check out overfinch and the legality. Need to check on insurance too although I use Adrian Flux and they're really good  on modifications.
Thanks for all replies chaps. much appreciated.
