Title: torque converter
Post by: disco-v8 on May 12, 2008, 16:25:04
ok a couple of questions.

At low rpm or when pulling off my 300tdi auto struggles 2 pull off like its been held back by a big weight, but the gear box isnt slipping like a clutch pack has worn away, as it wont rev past 1500rpm like it susposed 2do. But asoon as it reaches 2000rpm it shoots off like a rocket.
Does this sound like a dodgy torque converter?

Wil a 3.9 torque converter fit the 300tdi as i no the v8 is the medium sized1 and the tdi is the small1

You've checked the ATF level in the gearbox I suppose.

In which case sounds like the torque converter sprag clutch is slipping.

Replace torque converter time :(

my 3.9 had the same problem.... it turned out to be the govenor seals in the back of the box, they were leaking and causing the box to start in 2nd gear
