Title: OK SERIOUS advice needed
Post by: discowoman on May 12, 2008, 17:46:51
As some of you may know hubby has been off work now for close to 7 weeks with Gall bladder problems, he has had a 'procedure' to cure some of the pain , but has been on a downer ever since , and is now on anti depressants (never a good thing when you're a HGV driver) - as a consequence of this we have decided to do a role swap, and I go to work and he stays at home to care for our ASD son before and after nursery (and also the 2 girls when they come back from school)....RIGHT - now to the main point, I am hoping to get into Home care...ie I go and check on people in their own homes - help them dress / wash etc - and repeat the process at night to get them into bed..Now at the moment the only vehicle we have is the Disco....so 15-20mpg around town is going to do us no favours what so ever!
So i was wondering is it worth selling it as it is (J plate 3 door 200Tdi - usual suspects, but has T+T for about 4 or 5 months) OR is it worth considering breaking it down? reason I ask is that we need another vehicle preferably before we do anything to the disco - but then that means if we break it we have NO off road parking , and with the 'little darlings' in our street this is never a good plan!
Sensible advice, and even offers will be accepted..and also if anyone has a 'family' car that may be for sale then let me know
Thanks for reading this..

A friend of mine does this and finds it very rewarding she drives into work where she pics up a little van and drives that around ,but I think it depends on the local authorities as to what they supply...

Well the disco has gone to join its new owner in Sheffield, and we now have a 1998 Mondeo Verona Zetec - not a fantastic car - but should be easier on the pocket.
Thanks to all who expressed an interest.

Good luck  and I hope you enjoy it .

My Mum works in a home for children with needs she does 24 hour shifts , She has her own room and loves it..

When I asked why she said it's like having you lot back at home but I'm getting paid for it

all she has to do is keep an eye on them and spends a lot of her time sitting with them watching tv and drinking tea and making sure they have what they need .
