If so do you have a wiring diagram please?

There is a good diagram for these solonoids on the llama 4x4 site, will try and post a link

Hi,
Dont want to teach anyone to suck eggs, so please forgive me if you know or was going to anyway but its a good idea to fit an isolator and a fuse in the system.
Ive also fused the +ve feed to the winch controller as well.
I didn't when I fitted mine originally, just threw it all in quickly thinking I would get round to fitting an isolator and a fuse.
I also fitted a rather trendy wireless control thingy off Ebay, which has to be said worked really well, that is until whilst jet washing the engine one day I noticed that my winch bumper was all bent out of shape, didn't remember hitting anything then realized that the winch had actually turned itself on and was pulling the bejeezus out of itself and the bumper it was attached too......
by the time I had worked out what was going on and stopped it I had burnt out my winch motor........
so morals are...
1. Dont jet wash radio controlled winch systems until you have waterproofed them properly.
2. Fit an isolator for the winch (pref with a fuse or circuit breaker).
3. Fit a small fuse in the supply to whatever winch controller you have fitted.

just thought I would share my embarrassment with the club.....

I thought that if you have a winch on a road car, it was a legal requirement to fit an isolator switch to the solenoid +ive feed.

I've wanted to fit an isolator on mine but when i mentione dit to a mate it seemed awefully complicated and to cope with the kind of amperage draw it would have to be  really heavy heavy duty.

What isolators do people on here use??? and why is it not possible to just fit an inline isolator switch on the live from the battery (which is what I was told)?

I have a fairly hefty winch which can draw a maximum of 650CCA so I'm told.

If you want to be really clever, you could fit one of these inline between the battery and winch..... that way you simply flick a switch to connect the power to the winch, no need for a 'twist' type isolator...!!

I've got a similar one fitted, Very handy as you can cut power to the winch from inside the vehicle  :)

Yeh, good from that aspect, but something in my mind tells me i'd like to be able to cut the power if i was stood next to the winch aswell!!!

I take it then that is just a big old hefty relay. All you do is feed a live to a switch off the relay and an earth for the switch and the relay.

Seems simple enough.

Might invest in one of those.

Yep, all you need to do is break the main feed to the winch via the large lugs on the relay, then have an earth on the small spade connector and a switched 12+ on the other to arm and cut the feed..
