Title: non structural rust repair

my front inner wings could do with some tlc. as they aren't structural can I just pop rivet some patches on and seal them?

I can weld as I had to do my rear seat belt mounts for the mot, but to be honest that was a pain I will gladly do without.

I would personally weld it,Its done then you wont have to go back to it at a later date.

Or fiberglass filler not sure if that would hold up to the job though...

i welded mine, didn't take as long as i thought it would, give it a go, saves time in the future.

From an MOT point of view if the wheel arches are bolted, screwed pop riveted, etc to the bulkhead then they are not an MOT testable item, UNLESS there is something attached to the wing that a vehicle relies on for it's safety. So if you have the ABS module or similar fastened to the wing then that wing would be liable to be tested by the MOT tester. If the wing is welded to the rest of the bodywork/bulkhead then it is a MOT testable item.

the wings are fine as they were replaced recently plus they bolt on.

the holes are in the inner wings that are welded to the bulkhead and carry various ancillerys of the engine like fuse boxes battery air box and the like, so does that mean they will fail if not welded?

Yep if welded to the bulkhead they will fail if they have an hole within 30cms of a structural item. or an item that the vehicles relies on for it's safety. so within 30cm radius of a battery holder would be a failure
