...nearly got sandwiched between two accidents on the way home last night. I came around a bend and saw the first accident. I slowed down and waited for the oncoming traffic to pass so I could continue. All the time I was watching my rear mirror- hoping nothing was going to come fast around the corner behind me. Sure enough an Alfa Romeo 145 came belting round the corner at 70 ish closely followed by a Honda 600cc motorbike (another witness said they had been racing as they overtook him seconds earlier). Needless to say both had nowhere to go and the biker crashed into the rear of the Alfa as it screeched to a halt. Luckily I had seen them coming and had pulled onto the verge to give them more room to 'crash' in.
The biker was thrown off into the verge and lay there screaming for a bit- luckily he got away with a couple of broken arms. You can see from the photos how close he came to hitting the telegraph pole.

The Alfa driver, and probably biker as well, will get done for dangerous driving. Speeding round country lanes might be fun but it can go very wrong, very quickly. You just don't know what's around the next bend. I'm just glad the biker ploughed into the back of the Alfa and not a 2.5 tonne Hilux.
The first accident was also caused by inappropriate speed and overtaking too. You can just see the culprit in the ditch on one photo!. Took plod over an hour to take all the statements- and now I've got to take my docs to the cop shop too- first time I've had to do that for 20 years!
So- please be warned there's a lot of cyclists and horses (and a loads of 'fair weather' bikers) out and about now the weather is warmer and the evenings are light. People should notice these things and adjust their driving accordingly.
Take care.

In my previous job as a fireman I sadly saw too much of this sort of thing! Speed can kill if the drivers use it at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

We get far too many bike accidents here, usually because they're on unfamiliar roads and riding something they don't know how to handle when it gets hairy. If you're coming to Wales, particularly Powys, bear in mind that when a sign here says "Sharp Bend" it means it. In the rest of the country they seem to slap them on bends you can safely take at the legal speed limit.
The usual suspects seem to be packs of middle-aged born again bikers. They go out in convoy and seem to enjoy trying to intimidate other road users by positioning themselves in your blind spot or just riding too close. Next move is invariably trying to squeeze past, usually missing your front wing by about 8in because they evidently think the bit in the Highway Code about waiting for a clear stretch before overtaking doesn't apply to them.
I know not all bikers are like that, but those are the ones you notice and the ones who invariably come a cropper. Personally I see it as a case of their choice to ride like that and they should accept the consequences, but that doesn't help the poor sod who just had a bike go under the front of his bus does it?

Do you think? I suspect not. Even with several statements no one knows exactly what speed they were doing so there is no proof of actual speeding, so it will be loophole time and they'll probably get away with a caution blah blah blah. As always the motorcyclist comes off worst but that's the consequence of riding like he was I suppose.

Being as no-one was killed or serriously hurt and that neither had been drinking- it's possible it won't go to court. The driver who arrived next behind me put on his statement that they were traveling at 70mph because the just over took him and he was doing 50mph. Depends if the Police want to make an example or not I guess?

how come you have to take docs to the police?

witness statements i suspect.

Could be even thoe you were not hit you are part of the accident..
Was at a fatal on Tuesday night, car came flying around a long seeping corner, flipped on to it side then bent its self around a tree.
Sadly the chap was killed instantly, please everyone slow down.
If you want to have fun, go a track day... lots of long run off points and I'm not parked at the side of the road and you can floor it.

You will be amazed at what the accident investigation teams can figure out from the damage to the vehicles but as no one was hurt they might not have been called . Happy you didn't get hit ,Just be glad your taking your docs to a police station not someone else taking you to the hospiltal.. ;)
Living in north wales I see a lot of incidents like this most weekends and I have lost count of the accidents on the Llanberis bends as said before when the sign says slow! bend! it's there for a reason..
be safe everybody :D

Speed can be worked out from damage done and skid marks (possible injuries to biker). The decision will be made by CPS not the police and that depends on your location Warwickshire this would be a dangerous driving case.

Amazing no one was seriously hurt, but, that road is very wide compared with some round here and yes the bikers still go at suicidal speeds ! That's why I gave up riding a bike 40 years ago !

I do love the Summertime. It makes my work so much more 'interesting'. If it isn't the local morons on mini motos, its the bigger ones in their 'Chavtastic' Corsas, Saxos etc etc. Still, pays the wages, I suppose.
Drive safe, and that way we can all live to draw our pensions.

because the just over took him and he was doing 50mph.
So he will probably claim he overtook doing 55mph ??? either way when you see people make the courts doubt the accuracy of speed guns etc then no one will be able to verify the actual speeds these guys were doing.

Like Mr Clarkson says, it's not speed that kills ........... it's coming to a stop quickly that does it !

deceleration sickness ..
or concrete poisoning
