Title: Shocks...
Post by: clover on May 17, 2008, 17:27:15
Had my rear suspension apart today to fit H/D springs and noticed one of my shocks is knackered (minimal damping and the weld at the top is broke through).

So its time for some new shocks.

I'm going for gas shocks (heavy duty).

There seems to be some choice out there... Koni heavy track, Bilstein heavy duty, OME heavy Duty, OME Extra heavy duty.

Dunno which ones to go for. I've had Bilstein before but not these new heavy duty ones. OME extra heavy duty are the same as the Heavy duty ones so may as well get them if I go that way. The Bilstein are slightly cheaper by about £10.

What advice would you guys give me?

Cheers

John

I've had a set of de Carbons on mine for over a year now and they do wonders for the handling - it's a lot more settled on indifferent tarmac now, and feels far more "together" when cornering. The polybushes will have helped too but the shocks have been worth every penny.

I did like the decarbons I had fitted on mine when I got it , but the bottom thread snapped on the back ones, both on the originals and the new ones I replaced them with. I'm now on pro comps on the rear(which are cheaper) which are lasting but not as stiff.

I love the +5" Rough Country shocks (from Llama 4x4)

Feck... those are some serious bits of kit... don't want anything that extreme. Decided to go with the OME extra heavy duty ones.

trouble is I just know when I do the front I'll be needing to replace them as well...

You'll never regret using OME. I certainly don't.  :D
