i went to get new keys cut for my 300 tdi P reg discovery the other day and when home empty handed. The guy said that the keys could be chipped and i would have to find out. Is this true? i just want a second set for emergencies. The originals don't look as if there is a chip in them (ignition or diesel cap). how would i know?
Thx Ian

do you have a seperate fob for the remote or is it a single key and remote fob in one???
if it is the seperate fob then the transponder / chip is in the fob and mot in the key,

Hi there not trying to steal your thread yadda yadda
but i didn't think this question was worthy of starting a new one.
Can you get a spare cut say for a disco1 with no imob or anything like at your local key cutter?
Cheers Dan

Depends on the key cutter, if they have the right blanks for a Disco key then it should be no problem.

If you have the standard key and separate fob arrangement then the chip is in the fob. I bought some blank keys on eBay and my local motor factor cut them for me ~ no problem :)
