Hi,
Got a V8 Disco and looking for more ground clearance, use the car for playing only so don't have to worry about everyday use.
Currently running 235/75/16 Goodrich MT's with standard suspension and need more ground clearance!
With a 2" lift and 235/85/16 tyres what extra clearance would i get?
Are there any better suspention kits to get? (don't want to spend silly money, about a few hundred quid)
And finally, Goodrich MT's or INSA TURBO - SPECIAL TRACK?
Or does anyone recommend a better setup?

I currently have 2 discos sat on my drive, one standard, one not, the non standard one has 235 85's insa turbo saharas, and a 2 inch lift, the fron on the truck is about 3 1/2 inches higher than the standard one, the rear is 4 inches higher, however, only 2 inches of that measurement is under the axles, which is what matters most!! however, in oerder to fit the bigger tyres, you really need some sort of lift to get the best out of it all....

lifting suspension doesn't increase ground clearance as such, you can lift your car 9 feet and you will still drag the diffs
the onlyway you can increase ground clearance IE, diff dragging is to fit portals or bigger tyres.....which then usually brings on the suspension lift.

standard ground clearance according to the handbook is 8.5 inches I assume with 205 x 16's (approx 29" dia) 265 x 75 x16's are approx 31.5" dia = net gain of 1.25 inch ( max 1.5") making ground clearance of 10" wondering where you get the other 8" from???, as Boss says lifting the suspension or chopping the body makes no difference to actual ground clerance under the diffs.

As said diffs are the lowest point of the vehicle, but I've grounded out on a lot more than just the diffs, so all things in balance a suspension lift can provide a useful benefit to clearance on its own.
I would certainly recomend moving to 32" ish diameter tyres if you can, it then puts you on a par with the defenders which have them to start with and make most of the ruts (provided they haven't already fitted 35s :twisted:)
