Title: massive oil leak

I got a massive oil leak coming from centre of vehicle between the 2 front drivers and passenger doors underneath. its above the steering bar it round at front and long ( sorry for my dumbness) its got a threaded hole at bottom where the oil comes from any idea what kind of plug goes in there many thx

that sounds like the wading plug hole in the bell housing . you should only block it when your wading .iff you have oil coming out of there it sounds like you have the rear main oil seal gone, is also poss to be the gearbox front seal but unlikely. iff the oil is black should tell you its engine oil ..alan...

OK i had a good look and the oil is pouring out the back of engine down to gearbox i can see what it is as its right up against the bulk head any ideas guys thx  :-k

take a pic if you can with a torch, and post it up here and it might be a little easier to see where it is coming from then we can help you more  ;) :P

have you got a V8, Tdi or MPi? Manual or Auto?

i would guess your Rocker cover gasket is leaking, or it is leaking from the Headgasket

I had the same thought, the engine on my newly bought 300 is very wet, right to the top of the engine, so the rocker gasket is defo leaking, but if you looked at the oil sat on the top of the diff you'dd think it was serious!!
I plan to clean the engine off, then change the cover gasket then check for other leaks...!!

have you had the oil and filter changed on your truck disco-ron?

because the oil filter is above the diff and the oil always sits in the top of there,

I've only had it a week Ben, i'm gonna go right through it before i start using it, it's only done 82k from new, full history, but no mention of gearbox oils etc being done, i will be doing all the servicing right through befor ei use it.....

Ive got 2.0 ltr mpi manual, i took a cover off on the top where oil topped up i couldn see daylight anywhere and no oil around the top so i pressuming it slightly below the top of engine i gonna get sum1 to do a proper check how much u reckon a rocker cover will cost?

Sad news guys  [-o< its a head gasket gone so i gonna get that done new cam belt and radiator changed gonna cost abit but also found out that land rover owned it for the first 5 yrs and was 1 of few test veichles to change to the modern style of 300tdi so plus point sum where out of it  :dance: any how there goes my buying of off road bits to get her mended thx forur help guys  :clap:
