Title: key fob
Post by: woody on May 25, 2008, 08:55:46
i think my battery in the fob is dieing i have to get really close to the door before it opens
as my car is a disco series 1 ( R reg) the fob has 2 buttons on it one for open and one lock setting the alarm
can i just open the fob and replace the battery
is there a time limit to how long the battery can be out
or do i have to go to the main stealer's and get it re set????????????????

When I changed the battery in mine I just popped the case open and swapped the battery over. Must admit it still hasn't improved the range any...lol

Mark.

when you take the old battery out press poth buttons (seperatly) for 5-6 seconds each, to drain the memory out of the system

why would you want to drain the memory out of the system???????

AFAIK the locking system on a Disco is one of the sort where it cycles through a series of codes (to fox anyone trying to grab the code from the air). When I replaced mine I had to press the buttons alternately until it got back in sync with the alarm. It's a tad disturbing when it doesn't work at first but keep going. There may be some advice in the manual about it but it's been some time since I read that!

I didnt mean Drain the memory, i meant drain any residual power out of the fob so the memory doesnt get mixed up

it is the way it has to be done so at to refresh the batery power
